Some enlightenment on why a Rolex costs more, apart from the endorsements and advertising. Also after 1985 all Rolex hands and indices are made of yellow or white gold as steel ones corrode.

No problem.

This has got me a thinking ?????

Lets take a C60 and add some Rolex bits. We are now seeing the effects of an SH21 in-house movement that will start at the base £1500
Then add 100 x staff to get the production upto 1 million watches a year. Then all of the advanced machinery that Rolex use, and all the testing, testing and more testing before it leaves the factory.
Now add into the costs the refinement of case / bracelet finish, the in -house produced 904L steel and then the much higher grade of components used in the movements.
The white gold hands and indices.
The advertising and endorsement costs to get CWL known worldwide as a luxury brand, and now fit all that together as well as add in Authorised dealer costs and profits.

HOW MUCH DOES THE CW C60 NOW COST.

Is the C60 Trident good value for money, yes it is. Is a Rolex worth the 10 x of a C60. Without question yes.

IMO of course.

Value for money in watches (and any product) is completely personal. There are certain very expensive watches that I would never wear due to not liking them so even if they were offered to me at half price, it would still be to me 'bad value for money'. Something that you really like (that will last a long time) at a price you are willing to pay is good value for money IMHO.

I agree with most of the comments here. Value is very personal. At this point in my life, I can't fathom spending north of $5,000 on a watch. The $1,000 I just spent on the GMT is the most opulent gift I have ever given myself or received. I don't count my very nice road bicycle. This whole watch thing is more than about pure function. There is a very real connection we have with quality and appearance above function. If you were given $10,000 and told to buy the nicest watch you want, what would you do? For me, I would definitely look at some watches that I would never consider before. I would love to own an IWC or Bremont some day to mention a few. Right now I really can't imagine having that kind of money to spend on myself. There are just too many other competing priorities.

All that said, I am beyond excited to have my C8 and can't wait for the C60 GMT to arrive this week.

I think that some value is intrinsic not personal - i.e. there is a cost to a lump of stainless steel / a 3rd party movement / etc. which is common across any brand using it... then there is the additional perceived value which is personal and usually linked to the brand - I suspect that CWL has a higher % of intrinsic value and then a certain amount of brand value / personal value whereas Bremont / Rolex / etc. perhpas have different proportions?

Well said Alasdair - but curious about you not having any CW watches despite being so involved in the forum. What's the motivation and link?

Don't forget the expense of paying all those celebrity's to wear the brand

Alasdair
Alasdair your right about there being a certain cost for movement, case etc, however if Rolex suddenly started using standard ETA movements, I'm guessing 90% of people who buy Rolex really wouldn't care. Very few people except those who like mechanical things and those who post on forums like this really care about the movement in a watch.

I have rather too many CW watches :) - I think 23 at one point! Though have sold some of those I am not wearing much... I gave up listing them / updating the number when I got past about 10...
I also run the website tracking ebay sales (watchroll.com) so lots of interest!
