Twelve Ti bracelet: scratch magnet or no issue?

Post by Noush »

Well I missed the now sold-out Mango Ice Cream 38. No problem, I think the 36 will suit me better, although I do like that colour...
Looking alternately at one of the 36 Ti's I've seen a 'review' of sorts where the bracelet looked absolutely dreadful.

There'll be folks here with experience of Ti bracelets. what's the verdict?

I guess all bracelets mark, Chris. It goes with wearing the watch and I don’t worry too much about it. I’ve worn my Ti a lot in the year or so I’ve had it, including a week on holiday. I’m sure it’s got a few marks, but I’m never really aware of them. I’ll sort out a few photos later.

Thanks Steve. Just that Ti Grade 2 is "softer" than steel (about 20 Vickers points) and having seen that (one) video wondered if it amounted to anything.
In general I've kept my steel ones in pretty good shape over the years. I don't bash up my watches but I'm OK with a few marks. Life.
It's only fold-over clasps that normally get much noticeable scuffing.
All good then. I think one of those NN Ti36s is calling me :)

I was about to mention; there are still Nearly New 36 Ti Twelves.

All metal bracelets mark. Remember that Titanium oxidises over time, rather like bronze but at a much slower rate.

Often, the marks on a Titanium bracelet, or case, are rubs on the patina, not scratches in the metal. They will heal over time as new patina forms.

I'll advocate, got for it.

I went to buy one and got a total that is greater than the listed items....why can't this be simple?

I bought my C12 Ti 40 in January. It has been one of my most worn watches this year and has accompanied me during a couple of weeks of hiking holidays and a month in Greece.

A couple of pics of the bracelet that I have just taken…

Doesn’t look too bad to me.

I bought an Aquis on titanium, and took it off the bracelet immediately. I've done that with a couple of other watches as well, so I don't scratch the bracelets desk diving at home. Having said that I wear less expensive watches without removing the bracelets, and haven't noticed severe scratching.

It looks fine to me too, Neil. And thanks for that pic.
I'd have it purchased already if they hadn't thrown the curve ball at checkout.

When we were looking at UK Vs US pricing, you could see US duty on the final bill. Would you not see AUS duty at that point, if there was any?

@Noush I won’t crowd your thread with extra photos - my bracelet looks a lot like Neil’s, a few marks but basically fine.

@JAFO I guess we’ll agree to differ. If I buy a bracelet watch I’ll wear it on the bracelet. If it scratches, it scratches.

That's probably it and the question I asked by email. But why not list it?

When I bought the Sealander GMT I got a bill for GST (our VAT) plus duty and shipper's clearance fee from the shipper, paid that and it all moved from there.
This time it seems to have to a different place and it's all collected at point of sale.

I bought a nice watch just before COVID and I got some noticeable scratches on the bracelet just messing around at home. I don't know if a glass table in the garden could have caused scratches, but I couldn't understand where they all came from, and it's made me reluctant to do the same. It's harder with a 12, as you can't put just any strap on, can you?

It was polished, not brushed so maybe that's the issue.

Ah.....thanks for that Guy! Hadn't seen that. Went ahead.
Thanks also @JAFO for your contribution.

So I guess it will be on it's way :)

When I saw my daughter this morning and discussed it, she said get the Cosmic Purple one! Umm, she was wearing purple at the time :)
So yeah, that one. As number 19 in the watch boxes, time for a change-up.
