Thinking of picking up the c9 fle

Post by jasonjuiceon »

Before I decide to pick one up. Few questions

How accurate is this watch?
Is there a way to hack it?

Thanks

Most reports show these watches to be extremely accurate. RobinBarke (our accuracy guru) reports his as being 'totally accurate'.

Hacking can be achieved by slight reverse pressure on the crown, although I would imagine most experts would caution against this. Having said that, the 649x movement is as old as the hills and I'm sure people have been using the reverse pressure trick for years...

One of the beauties of hand-wound watches with small seconds is (to me at least), they tend to put you in a 'who cares about a few seconds' frame of mind. :)

Some say it is very accurate.

Try this response on hacking. You're the 3rd person who has asked this in the last 7 days.

I don't have a C9 FLE but, as the owner of a few vintage watches and a couple of non-hacking Japanese divers...yes, you CAN hold the movement, but I'm with Downer on the "what's a few seconds?" issue.
Let's say your watch gains +10 a day on average. When you set it the most it can ever be out by is 30 sec, if you position the minute hand between the markers so that it's 30 sec slow. In 3 days it will be perfectly right. In another 3 days you can repeat the trick. You're unlikely to miss your flight because of it, and you have the undoubted advantage of a watch you have to interact with every day.
If that's not accurate enough, you need quartz! :D

I've just let mine stop, 49 hours after the last wind. Will give the groove in my thumb and forefinger time to recover. Will be interesting to see if the total accuracy is resumed when I fire up in a month or so. I shall have no concerns about "holding" the movement to get the starting time right. As Richard says it has been tried, tested (and probably abused) over the centuries. What a gem!

Based on mine, and many others, I am willing to bet it will be as accurate as most watches out there.

Buy it ...you know you want to! If you like the style you shall find it a magnificent timepiece. :D

Thinking of picking up the c9 fle

Post by Pip »

Having very recently picked one up, it seems pretty accurate. Since I got it (Friday afternoon) it's lost about 2 seconds.....that'll do me!

I was one of the people who asked about the DIY hack.....I'm a bit OCD about watches being dead on the right time, and I've been using this method on a Seiko 5 for a year or so with no apparent ill effects. That said I'm no expert and offer no guaruntees!

I just had a look at the timing runs I've done (... yes I am that sad) and mine runs at -6s per day.

I'm a bit OCD about exact time. My daily watch is a radio controlled citizen. Lol.

Anyway this will be my first auto/mechanical. I cant decide between the c9 fle or the Hamilton khaki pilot grey dial.

Eek.

Don't mean to offend, but between the C9 FLE and that particular Hamilton, I'd say go for the FLE.

Post-edit: to clarify, I think that Hamilton dial is a mess.

Admittedly I am biased, but the Hamilton is likely to be available a lot longer than the C9FLE.

Thanks for the replies.

Does the c9fle come with the same 5 year warranty like the other watches on the site?
Also anyone have a pic of it with a dressier leather strap on?
