That’s definitely on a list for most beautiful caseback!

Pics stolen from the reference gallery. I unfortunately don’t own either :(
I would have to agree… for simple elegant beauty these C1s are indeed lovely and I’m happy to own one too… in fact this is the watch I plan to wear on our wedding day later this year :D

Brilliant choice! An elegant beauty of a watch, but not flashy enough to overshadow what really matters :D

I got a few I’d put up there in the looks department but nothing beats that Rose Cold chrono Guy posted.

A grail CW. I hadn’t seen it before and I’m super impressed!!

When I saw the title the first watch that came to mind was the C9 SS 5-Day. Lo and behold, that was the OP's choice too. :-)

Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: Tue Jul 26, 2022 5:36 pm This is a very subjective question, obviously, but it was prompted by a comment I saw this afternoon on someone’s SOTC thread, where another member had referred to one watch in particular as the most beautiful CW he had ever seen. I thought it might make an interesting thread without derailing anyone’s SOTC.

Obviously, I’m a bit of a dress watch fan, so lovely as some of the other watches are, such as the C70 chronographs and my wonderful Sealander GMT, they don’t really get a look in.

For a long time this was my front runner, the C5 Malvern Mk1:

For a while it was superseded by the MMXV Slimline FLE:

But earlier this year I finally got my hands on the C9 5-Day Small Second Chronometer. Game over (for now**)! :D

** Never say never, but given the current production trends I’m not expecting anything as exquisite as this to appear in the near future. Your mileage may vary. Eye of the beholder and all that.
Beauty is subjective by definition. My joining the ranks of Christopher Ward watch ownership happened after the C9 5 day small seconds chronometer made its run. Many of us change in our tastes with time & that particular model of watch really appeals to me at this point in my life. Until recently, I didn’t know that CW had made such a classically beautiful watch. The C9 small seconds would have my vote as the most beautiful CW watch ever made. I hold out a slim hope that the company might do it as a limited edition revival model in the future. As for the Christopher Ward watches in my collection, I think of the C65 Super Compressor in dark blue as the most beautiful.

Absolutely totally agree. The standard steel C900 is a design of perfection and beauty and Guy's RG is astonishing.

Yes they are, Andrew.

A feature of SH21 powered watches.

Guy
Not all SH21 watches have it, though. Mine has a rectangular date window. I noticed the wedge shaped window has now been adopted for the Aquitaine. I also love the slashed 7 numeral on some of the watches.

Thank you for some fascinating responses here. The C900-SP (rose gold or not) has a simply glorious dial and the movement is pretty amazing as well. The only thing that put me off when I handled one was the sheer bulk of the watch.

I won’t deny that the modern offerings such as the Sealander and Aquitaine are beautiful in the context of what they are. But I certainly prefer the more classical styles that were very much in evidence with the early JJ watches, and when the SH21 was first introduced.

I’m enjoying this, just going to sit back and admire some great photos of lovely watches. Keep them coming! :D

I think Guy's C900 is lovely, when viewed both front and back. The C9 SS has a lovely dial but I find the case a little hefty for what is a dress watch after all.

It's interesting to see our varying views on what constitutes "beauty".

Should the size or thickness of a watch affect it's level of beauty?
Would we look at a classic painting and say it's beautiful but too big or too small?

Keep the photos coming.

Great question, Mick, and I think it depends to some extent on context. I wouldn’t detract one iota from the visual beauty of the C900, but at 43mm plus a very large crown and almost 16mm in height I couldn’t wear it. I might admire a 5 metre canvas in a museum or palace, but it would look daft on any of my walls – well, it wouldn’t fit!

The C9 SS, as Des points out, is a little hefty for a dress watch. It’s no Altiplano for sure, but it just about gets away with it for me at 40mm x 12.3mm.

Always worth a WTB post, Delmar. You never know. It’s how I got mine. I put up a WTB and had the watch within a week. I guess I got lucky.

For the record, Steve, I really, really like the C9 SS, and your photos have only served to elevate my appreciation. It's just all about aesthetics and tiny margins. Throw in a good measure of subjectivity and what are you left with? just someone's opinion, that's all.

I never owned one of these due to the size but I do think they are a beautiful looking piece.
