The future is Aquitaine... ?
The Rick and Ariel "Ablogtowatch" weekly podcast featured a brief interview with Mike France.
https://www.ablogtowatch.com/from-enthu ... a-watches/
About 44 minutes in he mentioned the forthcoming release in April. It will be a line of three watches called "Aquitaine". Will there be a red dial with a colour called Bordeaux? Will there be a watch called Eleanor? Who can say. In another podcast Mike has said these watches have been called the "best looking CW watches ever".
Time to gird your credit cards for something exciting in April. Time will tell.

If we need a French place name for a watch, you'll be spoilt for choice.
From Alsace, maybe a Colmar. From the west coast, a Vendée. From the Dordogne, a Sarlat. Brittany has a Benodet. Many places in France would evoke fond memories for me.
I've come over all foody now. I quite fancy some crusty baguette, and a portion of my favourite rilletttes (the red bordeau-chesnel tubs)

If we’re talking about evoking memories, then I’ll need a yellow dialed model called Dijon.
Could these new watches be the return of a more dress oriented line?

Now Aquitaine would certainly not be pronounced correctly by anglophones.
Quimper, and St Quentin spring to mind. They don't get pronounced correctly either.

That will be the next release. The "moutarde" range.

Ypres and Reims are also good candidates for mispronunciation. Ypres was referred as Wipers by British Troops in WW I. I doubt things have changed much since.

I'd quite like a white dial called Chablis.JAFO wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 3:51 pm If we need a French place name for a watch, you'll be spoilt for choice.

36mm enamel dial in Bordeaux, Blanc and Bleu
watching you fail in your quest for a “one watch” has been great entertainment

Auchonvillers, on the Somme - “Ocean Villas”
Ploegsteert, near Ypres - “Plug Street”
A favourite order in the estaminets behind the lines was for egg and chips - “Woof and Fritz”
“Camp-Air” and “San-Con-Tan” would land you fairly close, certainly enough to be intelligible.
You’ll get pretty close to Aquitaine if you say “Aki-ten” and to Reims if you say the first syllable of “rancid”.
When you’re warmed up on those try the Dutch seaside resort of Scheveningen - good luck with that!
Mind you, you should hear my French friends trying to pronounce Norwich. “Nor-Weesh”
Now, back to the watches. Have fun speculating.

Re: The future is Aquitaine... ?
I was hoping for a sportier version of the C1, a bit like the Powerglow. Aquitaine generates images of something classier and dressier. Will be interesting to see what emerges.....
Re: The future is Aquitaine... ?
I've listened to the podcast now, and Mike said it wasn't french related. He pronounced it A-kwee-tane, rather than the French A-key-tan.
If it's not French related, it's hard to see what project Aquitaine would imply, I think.

Exactly my thoughts when I wondered if this meant the return of a dressier line.Kansas City Milkman wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 4:58 pm I was hoping for a sportier version of the C1, a bit like the Powerglow.
