Re: The future is Aquitaine... ?
Just read quickly through the story of Eleanor of Aquitaine. Apparently her grandmother was called Dangereuse, and the king when she was growing up was called Louis the Fat...
However, to read through the list of academic subjects, languages, sports, arts, crafts and activities that she mastered as she grew up was mind blowing (history seems to record only that she was beautiful...).

Re: The future is Aquitaine... ?
Perhaps this is the name that will be applied to the new C65 line, in order to separate it from the name trident which would then only apply to the C60s.

Re: The future is Aquitaine... ?
That's how I read it, I'm guessing that this is the c65 replacement.

Re: The future is Aquitaine... ?
Well she raised 90% of the ransom for Richard 1st from her holdings in Aquitaine and was certainly one of the most politically powerful women in England and non-Frankish France for a few decades. Definitely a worthy historical figure.missF wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 5:46 pm Just read quickly through the story of Eleanor of Aquitaine. Re: The future is Aquitaine... ?
My first thought when i hear Aquitaine is something dressy. But if the name is not referencing France, then it's got to be a diver. The suggestion that it's the C65 replacement makes a lot of sense. Trident and Aquitaine are great complimentary names for 2 diver lines within the brand.

Very interesting stuff, as most have said probably the name of the C65 replacement.

I’m holding out for something smaller (36mm to 38mm ) too. Something classy, refined and dressy would go down well.
Either that, or a “standard” Sealander black dial and an SH21 movement. I must admit that the images of CW’s latest GMT LE is very tempting, but I fear I am going off the sapphire dial. It makes the dial too busy for me?
A simple, steel sports watch with a high grade, COSC movement would be a winner!
Keep well,
C

A couple of notes added. Thanks for the interesting post.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 4:48 pm ..
When you’re warmed up on those try the Dutch seaside resort of Scheveningen - good luck with that!
Shkave-uh-nin-gun I think, but not a hard k. Not sure what the technical term is for the slight "retching" sound. Chess players know the Scheveningen defence in the Sicilian opening.
Mind you, you should hear my French friends trying to pronounce Norwich. “Nor-Weesh”
Reminds me of Benny Hill, many years ago, as the Chinese character coming to England in search of Norwich, but meaning "knowledge". Many other similar misunderstandings followed, causing Benny to refer to the interviewer as a "sirry iriot".
Now, back to the watches. Have fun speculating.![]()
(Edit. The Scheveningen reference reminds of watching cycling commentators discussing races in Belgium and Netherlands, with impossible pronunciations. Danish also. Second in the Tour De France last year was a Dane, Jonas Vingegaard, pronounced something like Vin-ger-go. And the Slovenian winner of the Tour de France for the last 2 years (and many more, we suspect) is Tadej Pogacar. Have a guess at that one.

Re: The future is Aquitaine... ?
I’m trying to understand the notion of Aquitaine as the new name of an updated C65 Trident line. The C65 Tridents are a well-received and firmly established line of watches. Why change names with the roll out of the Mk 2 models? That doesn’t make sense to me.
I think (hope?) Aquitaine will be a whole new line. I don’t imagine it will be the return of a dress watch, as why would they abandon using Malvern for that? I’m racking my brain trying to imagine what Aquitaine is meant to conjure up. My thoughts go to Eleanor, not the region if France - why would a British company name a watch line after a region of France?
So, Eleanor of Aquitaine - regal, complex, strong, risqué, wealthy. Man, I don’t know what to expect!

Re: The future is Aquitaine... ?
Aquitaine as in Aqua-taine.
A sort of homophone, I thought, when I referred to a "pun" earlier.
Maybe they would actually spell it Aquataine or even just "Aquatain", because once it gets spelled and pronounced as a French word the relevance is lost. You might as well go Spanish, and call it a Managua. (or an Aqua-man, or Agua-man, but I expect DC comics have those copyrighted)
It's a bit like the discussion about the new omega steel "O-megasteel", which only really works if you pronounce Omega as O-megger.
With regard to names a UK caravan maker called Coachman have had a long standing model called the "Pastiche". Sounds smooth and French, but they may not have consulted a dictionary.

Got it! Jacques Cousteau, legendary Diver, was born in Aquitaine.
Do I win a prize? Will CW pay my mortgage off or my fuel bills for a year (both extortionate but of equal value I think!) for getting it right

Seems an obvious choice now.
I know him for diving ,but he was much more than that, I read.
If your Correct, I think a nice "Red Beannie" hat as a prize would be fitting !
