The C65 Super Compressor Has Landed New Photo

Post by Woolwich »

Hi All

I meant to post a “review” & photos of my C65 Super Compressor purchase several weeks ago but got sidelined, so now here it is.
It isn’t a watch review, I don’t have the experience to feel I can do that and the photos are of the “I snapped it on my bed” as opposed to “I framed the photo, set the lighting and adjusted the f Stop” variety.

Why a Super Compressor?
Going back to the digital watch I’ve owned since 1980 through to analogue watches I’ve bought over the years there’s no shortage of dials, timers, lap counters etc to be found, none of which I use so increasingly what I want from a watch now is that it “just” tells the time, the Super Compressor does this.

Why the Camel Leather strap?
Bear with me because this sounds awful but at the time it was the least worst choice! I didn’t want a metal bracelet and the longer I thought about the black Tropic Rubber strap the more I thought it didn’t match the watch especially given that I intended to buy blue and orange straps anyway. So leather it was because at least it offered a totally different look. Fast forward to the watch arriving and me wearing it and my opinion has done a 180, it looks fantastic on the leather strap.

Buying it.
After all of my deliberation I pushed the button on a Thursday morning for the watch, additional straps & travel case opting to pay the £10 for next day delivery as one of the family was definitely going to be in all day. Friday came and went and no watch. I was a little miffed because I was now faced with the watch arriving when no one was home so I emailed customer care about my disappointment. At the moment I sent the email I received a broadcast email from DPD apologising to all customers for a technical fault that had affected UK deliveries, I felt suitably a heel. Shortly afterwards another email from DPD giving me a one hour window it would be delivered later that day, it fitted with my plans anyway and it turned up as promised, good work. On Monday morning I got a reply from Customer Care that I in turn replied to say that it was all a storm in a teacup and all’s well that ends well. They weren’t having it though and refunded my £10 delivery charge, it hit my bank account in minutes. All told they way that both DPD and Christopher Ward reacted to events outside of their control was exemplary & left me feeling completely satisfied.

The Watch!
A plastic bag contained an inner plastic bag in which the travel pod was packed and a large brown box for the watch. I didn’t tear it open and I’m glad I did, more of later.
On opening the box I was greeted with this, a watch box surrounded by smart matte black packaging.

But where were my two extra straps?
It turned out that the matte black packaging wasn’t simply that, it was boxes with the straps in which is why not ripping the outer box in a frenzy of excitement was a good idea as the whole lot are now stored in it in my wardrobe.
IMG_0924.jpeg
The small box contained a polishing cloth, sheet of Christopher Ward stickers, a signed welcome note from Mike France and a pre printed warranty card, so that’ a job I don’t need to do.

So here’s the watch which I love along with a rear view showing the little strap that keeps the free hoop from wandering away, it’s probably normal to everyone on here but I’d never seen it before.

One last photo which I’m actually quite pleased with, I finally put the orange Tropic Rubber strap on last night before going out and I have to say it looks pretty good to me.

So there you have it, make of it what you wish and if reading my journey is helpful to anyone then I’m glad to have helped.

Thank you :D
It actually came about years ago when I joined another forum, I was wondering about what to create as a username when my eye fell on our latest mortgage statement from The Woolwich Building Society.
The rest is history.

I'm off out tonight somewhere that isn't an orange strap kind of place, so here it is in the blue Tropic Rubber.

Thank you. The weird thing is that I don't have a favourite, they all bring out something different in the watch so I like them all in different ways.
I'd definitely recommend anyone buying any Christopher Ward watch to consider an extra strap or more, it genuinely can totally alter the look and is far cheaper than buying 2 or 3 watches!

What the heck, here's the last one showing the standard strap.

I definitely think the camel strap was the right choice. I don't know if it's just me, but the lug to lug length seems quite large, almost unwieldy. Is it, or was that just camera trickery?

I think it would be the perfect vintage style watch at 38mm.
