the benefit of quartz!
the benefit of quartz!
I set my T3 about 2 weeks ago and it has had occassional wear since, between my Archimedes and Grovana Corel reef. Put it on tonight as mt neighbour is getting his tonight.
Idly checking against GMT is within a second, how impressive is that?
have to say quartz do have a benefit when ou've got loads of watches, just put it on and go.........

Re: the benefit of quartz!
Quartz watches are what I'd have if I need definite accuracy. Which is rare. My T3 is one of the few quartz watches I have the get significant wrist time any more.
Right now I'm wearing an automatic, and it's within a minute of my laptop - good enough for me

Re: the benefit of quartz!
the answer of course is to have a selection of quartz and automatics!!!!!
Re: the benefit of quartz!
My new C6T3 has been running -1 second behind GMT (BT automatic clock 1234) for the last 7 days - which is excellent. Waiting to see how my C6LE compares when I get it next month?

Re: the benefit of quartz!
As the man says - have automatics and quartz - and handwound. I was wearing a quartz, but put on my £17 Argos sale Sekonda Russian automatic to trim my hedges and cut trees back this afternoon and probably wear a quartz tomorrow at work. Quartz are really accurate, and I set my handwinds by them. They are all watches and good pleasure... UB
(By the way, the time on TV digi, Teletext, Ceefax etc are all off the Rugby Atomic clock, as is my cheap kitchen clock with sweep second hand - very accurate time is within all our grasp these days)

Let us hope all politicians are masochists, that they may truly enjoy our fondest wishes...

2 and a bit weeks later still within a second!!!! amazing even for a quartz!!!
Re: the benefit of quartz!
Most of my watches are automatics, but I have the white KF and the T6.
I must say they get lots of wristtime, when I am in a hurry it is very pleasant to have watches that I don't have to set.
The're always on time and very accurate.

Most of my watches are autos, but I've got the C3 because I just liked the look of it and I recently bought a cheap watch from Werners Flying Watches - an Astroavia R7 chrono with alarm. It's not a "great" watch by any means, but it's a good knock about and I find it's brilliant for travelling with; cheap enough at 80 quid not to matter too much if it gets broken/lost/stolen, it's got great lume which is handy for a dark hotel room at 2 in the morning and it's comfy to wear with a resonable leather strap. Also, like others here, I find it easy to just put on without having to check/regulate it. I agree with you lads, have a mixture.

Re: the benefit of quartz!
The benefit I like about quartz is that when one dies you can replace it for about 20 bucks or less. I must have collected a dozen quartz watches over the years. They now sit in my top drawer, all with dead batteries. As each one died, I would just go and buy another but I'm talking about the super cheapos like the ones you find in Wal-Mart. My only experience with quartz watches are with the dirt-cheap ones, not the finer made quartz by CW. It's amazing how great Japan and China can make them look, rivaling that of a CW at a cost of only 20 bucks. The biggest benefit these cheap quartz watches have given me is a greater appreciation for finally owning an automatic once again. It's been 25 years!
Re: the benefit of quartz!
I had a 34mm Tag Kirium quartz that I gave to my missus since women are going for bigger watches these days. I got fed up with the very contempory style of the thing and it was too small for me, but it is a very well built watch. In spite of it being a quartz, it really had a quality feel to it.
Re: the benefit of quartz!
Seiko Kinetic are both - automatic with quartz memory.
A few new brands are coming up with a movement which is automatic charging a quartz cell. A few automatic go over a week, anyway. Solar panel watches is another choice; but must wear short sleeve all the time

Re: the benefit of quartz!
Since eBay has taken over the world on web/sales/information - it is interesting to see what makes the world go around. Should anyone digit automatic - you will find that some watches cost as little as $10 (new).RSHETTLE wrote:How about the benefit of autos? I'll give you one: Re-sale value!
Ok! we know that they are no good.
I would say that Longines and Zenith are good enough. Any 20 year old watch with automatic movement (and they used to do them nicely, in those days) and a gold case can be picked up for around £80 to £120.
Average gold and steel Rolex (say 4 to 5 years old) - is half the price of what one paid for it. I tend to agree with many that pay £20-£40-£60 for a quartz (Timex, Casio, Seiko, Bulova) and throw it away if it stops working.
One of my Ulysse Nardin has just stopped in the last few days (very unsual) but to have some service done to it will probably cost me £80 (if I am lucky). To have the wheel balance set properly on a Jaeger Reverso Duo, I had to pay almost £200.
Small points to consider but re-sale value will only kick in with certain models and brands.

VE5Y,
You may be new to this forum but you're not new to the world of horology. Do you remember the Zodiac Sea Wolf, late 60's. I want to know what movement they had.
