Thank you CW for movement repair/fix

Post by tikkathree »

I was distraught when the stem came out in my hand and could not be persuaded to return correctly.

A trip to CW for some TLC and the new packaging ensued and now we are reunited.

Thanks. And even nicer that it didn't cost me a bean.

^^^^ That's definitely nice.

How come it didn't manage to cost you a bean, Pete?

Guy, truthfully I don't know. (In much the same way that the paperwork from CW which came back with the watch simply states "part repair" so doesn't tell me much about what they did.)

I'd assumed the movement to be beyond the reach of the 60:60 cover and was expecting to pay for the repair. The estimate came by email showing "the repair ois being covered under warranty" which I queried it giving CW the opportunity to "make an adjustment" but no.

Prior to sending the watch in I'd found a youtube video about the stem release/lock technique and I know it wasn't a fix which even an idiot could perform.  The stem went back in but wouldn't stay there other than through the screw-down crown mechanism.

Had the movement been replaced previous to my ownership - so was still in warranty - and CW had this in their records? I don't know.

The service department probably have three watches a year from me for service/repair so do I qualify for a secret regular customer gold star service programme? Again I don't know.

What was charming was that the invoice and pressure test prints came back in a black envelope clearly designed for the new short bamboo box and pre-printed with the words "The (not so) painful bit".

^^^^ Seems like the Gods were smiling on you, Pete.

At least you did the honourable thing and say 'are you sure this is under Warranty?'

Yup, the new packaging is nicely thought out. I take it that you got a new half coffin box as well. Have you tried the six seconds drop with it? Place it on it's end and see how long the outer sleeve takes to drop. :-k :-k

The new half coffin bamboo box has gone off to the watch box storage vault but on my next visit..I need to find a use for the stickers

As there isn't the length within the box for a fitted strap laid flat I'm assuming that the strapped watch would be fitted round a cushion.

Of course if I'd kept a record of the movement number before shipping the watch back to CW I could be certain whether it had been swapped out.
