Just let them run down, looks to be far too much hassle to me.
No more Quartz (except when I cannot resist).

Thanks Ian, I'll try the sponges. You would think some enlightened manufacturer would make pads that you could pump up to tension. I've put the winder on a timeswitch so it doesn't run overnight to satisfy the Management and you are quite right the watches don't need 24 hour winding. Some 'experts' are currently saying that movements are likely to last longer if at rest when not being worn and the servicing intervals are extended as long as the movement has occasional use to keep the lubricants active. With this in mind I sometimes switch off completely!

The Steinhausen watch holders on the rotating bit appear to be the same concertina type as per the CW winder, so everything adjusts to a luverly snug fit!

Still waiting for the power adapter!

Just in case this helps someone else, I have received a response from Steinhausen describing the various switch settings to set the winder modes.

This is it:

There are four modes for our watch winders:
Mode 1 (both switches with the O pressed in): rotates for 180 seconds on then 12 minutes off.
Mode 2 (first switch with the O pressed in, second switch with the I pressed in): rotates 180 second on then 15 minutes off.
Mode 3 (first switch with the I pressed in, second switch with the O pressed in): rotates 180 seconds on then 18 minutes off, then 180 seconds in the opposite direction.
Mode 4 (both switches with the I pressed in): rotates 180 seconds on then 24 minutes off.
For switching winding direction:
I pressed in will wind clockwise
II pressed in will wind counter clockwise
Neither pressed in will turn the winder off
*Please note that the CW and CCW settings do not apply when the winder is set to Mode 3 as this mode winds in both directions.

Still waiting for the power supply :-(

I did a comparison review last year that might offer food for thought.
