SH21-an abnormal ClICK while manual winding

Post by JonathaN_LI »

Has anyone ever heard any abnormal clicking sound(no like the normal and continuous winding sound) in the middle of manual winding? It was as if the gears had suddenly slipped. And it happened not once while I have just used for 2 months.
I observed it for 2 days after the first click, luckly there was no movement or functional abnormality...so far.

It sounds like the clutch is kicking in to stop you overwinding the main spring. Are you sure it’s not fully wound?

When I heard the clicking sound, the power reserve of the watch was only displayed for less than 4 days, so it should not involve the problem of excessive chain, I still doubt whether there will be a slip between the gears. At present, the watch is very stable, and the power reserve display function is still normal. I would like to wait two days after the reserve drop, then wind up the chain to see what will happen.
BTW, this is a hand-linked SH21 model.

Hi on a similar note should I regularly wind my c8 Al Deere flyer? I don't wear it and I know its a wind up.
I wear my Trident as my daily wear which I am over moon with and feel that it is very robust.

^^^^ It won't hurt to wind it and let it run, every once in a while.

It will keep the cogs turning and oils from gumming up.

I have a couple of hand wound SH21 watches and have, over the last few days, wound them up.

All of them have been silky smooth and sweet sounding, with no extraneous clicks or ticks.

I'd suggest you keep an eye on yours and, if the ticking issue persists, it might be an idea to ask CW to take a look at it; although I appreciate that may present logistic issues for you.

Thank you for sharing the experience and suggestion, they are really helpful. In recent days, there has been no abnormal situation. I will be more careful when winding and continue the observation.

Hey Guy, after extensive chats with my watchmaker it seems that modern oils don't congeal like the old ones. They evaporate. But I am in your camp it can't hurt. And I think it would keep the lubrication evenly distributed at any rate.
