Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
Incredible as it seems, CW’s regular publication Loupe is seven years old. They had catalogues, magalogues and magazines before that, but the Loupe title was first used in June 2016.
See Publications section of the CW Forum Archive.
The present format combines news of releases and developments from CW, articles about the watch industry and horology in general, articles about the history of watches and clocks, interviews, and what may be called “lifestyle” articles about topics such as culture, fashion, cinema, music and sport.
The Forum Admin Team would be very grateful for some feedback from our members. If you can post answers to any or indeed all of the following questions it would be extremely useful.
1. Do you receive a hard copy of Loupe?
2. Do you prefer a hard copy or are you content to read the online version?
3. Which types of article or content do you enjoy most, and why?
4. Which types of article or content do you enjoy less, and why?
5. Are there any articles you would class as “outstanding”? The “Snippets” section of the Archive might jog your memory on the horological topics.
6. Going forward, is there any type of content you would like more of?
Thanks for your participation; it is appreciated.

Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
I receive a hard copy, but I seldom read it. I'd like to see more emphasis on watch related content and fewer human interest stories. I already follow a number of topics, so CW probably won't hit upon my other interests.
I would prefer to receive a glossy catalog once or twice a year.

I get a hard copy. I glance through, and read some articles, I would be equally happy with a downloadable version. I don't keep the printed one, but I have all the old issues downloaded.

I’m assuming you’d like responses posted here? Or should we send our responses in a DM?
Is this just curiosity from the admin team or requested research from CW? I’m just curious.

Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
1. Do you receive a hard copy of Loupe?
yes
2. Do you prefer a hard copy or are you content to read the online version?
I prefer the hard copy. The PDF is convenient for skimming through before my hard copy shows up, but I find PDFs a bit of a pain to read.
3. Which types of article or content do you enjoy most, and why?
I make a point of reading all the articles about new CW models. As for why, my interest in Loupe is primarily because it’s from CW, so that’s where my eye goes. I also quite enjoy the snippets about what CW has been working on and what’s in the pipeline.
4. Which types of article or content do you enjoy less, and why?
The non-watch related stuff doesn’t interest me much. Occasionally I’ll read an article if the topic really grabs me.
5. Are there any articles you would class as “outstanding”?
None jump out.
6. Going forward, is there any type of content you would like more of?
I can’t think of anything in particular. The horological content always grabs my interest, especially if it ties in in someway with what CW is doing.
yes

Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
Thanks, Drew. As Guy said, we were curious. We noticed that it was seven years and 30 editions old now, and apart from a few chance comments here and there we didn’t have much idea on how people react to it, what they like and what they don’t.

Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
1. Do you receive a hard copy of Loupe?
I used to receive one but not anymore. I didn’t keep them once I’d read them though.
2. Do you prefer a hard copy or are you content to read the online version?
I didn’t request a hard copy when they stopped posting them out automatically. If pressed I would say I’m fine with an electronic copy but I find I don’t read it as much now. I used to read my hard copy cover to cover but tend to skim through an electronic version, if I read it at all. So while I say I don’t mind, my reading habits probably prove otherwise.
3. Which types of article or content do you enjoy most, and why?
Watch related content. I’ve liked the coverage of other small brands that have been featured and enjoyed the insight article towards the back recently.
4. Which types of article or content do you enjoy less, and why?
Non watch related content. Anything about fine arts, I think there may have been an opera article at some point? I just turn to the next article.
5. Are there any articles you would class as “outstanding”? The “Snippets” section of the Archive might jog your memory on the horological topics.
Nothing springs to mind, as per Q2 I’m not going to go back and download back issues to check, maybe if I’d have kept the hard copies I would revisit them to see.
6. Going forward, is there any type of content you would like more of?
Watch content. Subjects such as watch making, industry inside knowledge, the design process etc.

1. Do you receive a hard copy of Loupe? Yes
2. Do you prefer a hard copy or are you content to read the online version? hard copy please, I find online content presented as virtual magazines with flip over pagination unappealing and difficult to read so I don't bother. Despite spending loads of time online!
3. Which types of article or content do you enjoy most, and why? News about watches, news about the company CW
4. Which types of article or content do you enjoy less, and why? All the fluff, all the padding which I imagine some "influencer" has encouraged the inclusion of with a view to stimulating interest from new buyers. In pre-covid days when such things were allowed I'd leave my Loupe in my GP surgery waiting room for others to share.
5. Are there any articles you would class as “outstanding”? The “Snippets” section of the Archive might jog your memory on the horological topics.
Can't remember a single "outstanding" feature.
6. Going forward, is there any type of content you would like more of? I'd like to see more of the team at CW HQ: I simply don't know if it's Mike and Peter and an answering machine or Mike, Peter and a cast of thousands!

I used to skim through it but not anymore, goes straight into the recycling bin. Apart from the back page with my name and address. That gets shredded.
Most of the watch related topics are in the main covered here on the Forum.
Not interested in the other human interest stories.

@TheBeatles Just wondering whether there is an easy way for you to opt out/unsubscribe from the hardcopy version?

Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
1. Do you receive a hard copy of Loupe?
Yep, but I will be looking to stop it after yet another fairly poor effort.
2. Do you prefer a hard copy or are you content to read the online version?
Hard copy. Work on a PC all day every day, so I enjoy stepping back to read it.
3. Which types of article or content do you enjoy most, and why?
Anything watch-related because I guess I'm a bit of a watch enthusiast.
4. Which types of article or content do you enjoy less, and why?
All the non-watch related bumf. I can get my "lifestyle" fix elsewhere.
5. Are there any articles you would class as “outstanding”? The “Snippets” section of the Archive might jog your memory on the horological topics.
Not really, although an article about all the steps involved in the Bel Canto may reach those dizzying heights.
6. Going forward, is there any type of content you would like more of?
Anything about watches. Heck, I'd even gladly accept some sort of cobbled article about watch industry financials at this point.
