Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
1. Do you receive a hard copy of Loupe?
>> Yes, but by the time it comes, I've already read the magazine online, so it's a waste of paper, plastic (the packaging) and energy (delivering it to my country)
2. Do you prefer a hard copy or are you content to read the online version?
>> online
3. Which types of article or content do you enjoy most, and why?
>> only the CW and watch-related content.
4. Which types of article or content do you enjoy less, and why?
>> anything not CW or watch-related. Why? Just not interested. I skip all those pages in any issue of Loupe.
5. Are there any articles you would class as “outstanding”? The “Snippets” section of the Archive might jog your memory on the horological topics.
>> no. I do like reading the little hints they give as to what new watch model might be coming, though.
6. Going forward, is there any type of content you would like more of?
>> more watch-related stuff.

Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
A few years ago, I made a big effort to get my corres with CW sorted. I used to get Loupe at my 1st Thai address, but so late, that it was all old news.
So when I moved, I spoke via email to a young chap somewhere in the CW ofice who couldn't understand why all corres has stopped. Anyway, after a bit of tinkering, emails resumed, some to my general email address, others to a specific watch email address I use. Then everything stopped again and I haven't bothered with it since.
Emails seem to work okay when I am buying something, or have somethiing in my cart. God works in mysterious ways!
For all I know, loupe is still being sent to my old address, or even to my current one (where they send stuff I have bought), but the post is so bad here.
Do I miss Loupe? Not all all. I get newletters from various sites, watchtime, watchpro, Fratello and so on, I get more news than I need really.

Yes
2. Do you prefer a hard copy or are you content to read the online version?
Hard copy. PDFs are largely annoying to navigate.
3. Which types of article or content do you enjoy most, and why?
Most watch related articles, CW info etc
4. Which types of article or content do you enjoy less, and why?
Almost all the influencer/lifestyle filler articles. I often have an involuntary quick roll of my eyes before moving on, rapidly.
5. Are there any articles you would class as “outstanding”?
Nothing stands out in my memory.

I prefer the hard copy, probably wouldn’t read the online version, but I don’t know that it’d bother me to miss it.
3. Which types of article or content do you enjoy most, and why?
Peeks into the design process, previews, etc.
4. Which types of article or content do you enjoy less, and why?
The lifestyle stuff. I don’t really need it because I have so many other places to get that content, but I do understand without it you have a pamphlet and not a magazine.

Not particularly.
6. Going forward, is there any type of content you would like more of?
Would love to see more behind the scenes, day-in-the-life sort of stuff about the company, the manufacturing process, the designs, designs they didn’t go with

Stories about influencers, had enough of that

Don't really think so

An apology section for poor service, poor communication, poor management, overpromising and underdelivering

Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
I'd like to see some factory tours in the magazine, along with perhaps interviews with the people who work there. Giving people more of an in-depth look of what they're paying for should be very appealing to readers.
I would also like to see less "filler", and more of the juicy watch related stuff like above.

Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
I do receive a hard copy issue & prefer the hard copy to the digital version. Probably a sign of my age but I get more out of hard copy layout & photography. The news concerning the latest releases & what is on the drawing board catches my attention first. I prefer reading about the design process & creative inspiration behind the Christopher Ward watches. I do like articles about the history of British watch making & other UK watch companies. I could do without the pop culture articles & photo essays like this issue’s “Rainbow Nation” for example. I subscribe to “Discover Britain” & “Scotland” which provides enough of the UK culture that I wish to read about. Other than the Loupe articles about CW watches like the Bel Canto, I have thought the “Isle of Watch” article about Roger Smith & George Daniels was outstanding. Another enjoyable article concerned Wessex Watches. I have enjoyed the tie ins of watches with motor racing history. In the future, I would like a behind the scenes look around the CW headquarters & their Swiss factory facilities. Interviews with the people that design the watches are always good. I would like to see some articles about past CW watches like they did this time with the W900 Belisama Automatic. For those of us newer to the brand, it would be fun to see models that we have missed. And, if they are doing a culture article, then one like the write up of the book filled with photographs of classic pubs is more useful. But, the main focus should always be on their brand of watches.

Slight detour:
Regarding Belisama Automatic, I repeat what I posted in another thread (future classics) - it wasn't the only women's auto watch by CW. The original 38mm Trident Auto was originally the W61, before it was re-marketed as the C61.
@Kip might wish to let CW know.

This point has already been noted and discussed by the Admin Team.
The descriptions of both watches within the CWArchive have been reviewed and have, or will be, ammended as appropriate.

Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
1. Yes.
2. I enjoy the reading experience of a hard copy. I also find it preferable to be able to pick it up and read without being online (Oh the irony of saying this on an online forum
) I probably wouldn't read Loupe online unless a forum comment drew my attention to something of interest to me.
3. Probably the background to new watch releases. I also used to enjoy the stuff about other British watchmakers.
4. Some of the "lifestyle" which doesn't fit with me. Loupe is the lifestyle magazine of CW and I get that, but it's not my lifestyle. I really don't think that I'm the target audience for CW. There can be an interest in learning about things that I wouldn't normally read, but much of it isn't really for me.
5. No, there's nothing I would class as "outstanding". It's clearly written and produced by marketing people rather than journalists. That's fine for what it is, but it's unlikely to produce outstanding articles.
6. I'd like to see more considered opinion on the strategic direction of CW as a company, how the latest release fits with that, why some models have the lifespan of a firework, why they advertise where they do (Private Eye?) etc. What we seem to get more of is Mike France enthusing about the latest model - understandable, but lacking in context.

Re: Seven Years of “Loupe”: your thoughts, please?
1. Do you receive a hard copy of Loupe?
Yes
2. Do you prefer a hard copy or are you content to read the online version?
Hard copy. It is easier to read than the pdf version. If only available electronically I probably wouldn’t bother reading it. Whilst I don’t retain all of the hard copy editions I have kept a few. Those that feature models that I own, if I think that they are noteworthy. E.g. Bel Canto, Twelve and Sealander.
3. Which types of article or content do you enjoy most, and why?
Anything relating to watches. The drawing board features are particularly interesting, as it is often possible to deduce what is coming next. E.g. with the Twelve.
4. Which types of article or content do you enjoy less, and why?
The majority of the non watch related content, although I do understand why it is included. All brands that produce such magazines do likewise. From issue 30 the only non watch content that I read was the one about the King’s Road.
5. Are there any articles you would class as “outstanding”? The “Snippets” section of the Archive might jog your memory on the horological topics.
None especially
6. Going forward, is there any type of content you would like more of?
Biel Atelier, watch making, staff interviews, more about the design and production process.
