Scooter Blue FLE 10Yr anniversary

Post by magicman »

Hello there.

A question, that the man himself, may only be able to answer.Following on from the car/watch colour match thread.
I wondered if the Scooter Blue was re-released as a 10yr Anniversary would you make any changes to mark the occasion ?

Regards Steve

Absolutely Steve.

I would reduce it from the 42mm advertised but actually 43mm down to 40mm.

That apart no changes for me.

I think that would be really popular- maybe we need to put in a request to CW?

Agree, keep to the original design but reduce the case to 40mm and no need for an exhibition caseback.

I'm just back from a week's holiday in Portugal (Cascais & Lisbon) and wore my Scooter blue every day, including in the pool, sauna etc. It really renewed my liking for the watch. Whilst I was away I saw something referencing the Rolex "Smurf" and I thought to myself actually who needs one of these when you have this C60.

The only thing I'd probably change is having the micro adjustment on the clasp as that is very handy for warm weather.

Someone who wants a blue ceramic bezel, blue dial, white gold indices, 40mm case, glidelock bracelet, accurate to a couple of seconds a day, service once every 10 years, dive watch. :)

Presumably now that you realise the error of your ways, you will be selling your 114060 and replacing it with a black bezel, black dial Mark 1 43mm Trident….

That sounds like a winner to me. I always regret not being around for this FLE.

A few years ago there was a period when a couple/few of these appeared for sale on the SC. I bought 1 that way and then sold it a few years later (again on SC so I believe it's still owned within the Forum) because I gave up wearing it due to the 43mm size, being over-size for me at the time but I'd maybe buy it or another back if available.

It's a great shade of blue, unique even, that can be seen wonderfully in Scooter's professional photos of his watch.

An anniversary FLE re-release is an interesting thought - could it be a serious thought? IIRC CW state limitations of use of FLE specifications in future watches so would a "Scooter Blue" 10yr Anniversary be possible?

I'm sure there would be sufficient interest but this FLE release has such a personal attachment to Scooter that serious thoughts shouldn't be considered further without his total agreement and even permission.

Personally I think that would be a bad idea.

The future beckons brightly.

Of course the Smurf is a great watch but I really don't mind if an aluminium or ceramic bezel, white gold (I wouldn't notice the difference to steel), yes the case could be a mm or so smaller and the bracelet have adjustment but I think for the value, I'm happy with the C60 (resale value of a Smurf seems to be about 100 times more  )

In the interests of variety I will probably stick with the 114060!

I wasn’t around for this FLE and I suspect there are many on here who have also joined the forum since.

I’m genuinely interested in how this FLE design came to be but there’s a lot to read through and I’m hoping someone can explain how the final exact colour was reached.

From what I can read, Downer posted his design on the main discussion thread along with a picture and said “Here is my own effort - blue dial, black bezel, white lume everywhere.”

Scooter then offered his choice and said

“downer chum
Could you do 'the scooter', same as yours but with a blue bezel?
Thanks awfully if you can manage it
scooter”

In the final selection thread the following picture of the scooter blue was presented for the vote.

And this looks different to the final colour that made it to production

So how was the final shade of blue decided? I believe the reason the scooter blue is special is because of that exact colour, CW have done other blue dial and blue bezel watches but they don’t look as good.

Scooter did you have a hand in tweaking the shade of blue or was down to the CW team to finalise it all?

Iain

downer was one of the Forum chaps at the time who had the computer skills to mock up and I have always credited him for that.

I have described it as me 'designing' the watch (in the limited way we were allowed) and then downer coloured it in for me. In terms of the actual colour blue it was always down to CW.

Chris told me afterwards that although he might follow the blue palette for a future C60 (which he did) he would never replicate the actual colour blue chosen for the scooter blue. To the date that Chris left the Company he remained true to his word. That was Chris.

Scooter, how close a colour match would you say this post Chris C60 Rickman Metisse is with the original C60 Scooter?

Having not seen the Metisse and the scooter blue together it's very difficult to answer that.

The bezel on mine is aluminium whereas I would imagine the Metisse is ceramic.

The best I can do is to post these 2 photographs taken today as some form of comparison.
