This is all too funny. A little over an hour ago I told my wife I would be home in 20 minutes. So I hit the start button to see how long it actually takes me. As I'm reading this post I realize I forgot all about. I just now stopped it and pressed reset button.

You forgot two people. Who's going to do the resets? Kip, you will have to take responsibility on this one. So now we need 2 starters, 2 stopper and 2 to reset the watches for Kip.Kip wrote:That's 2 starters and 2 stoppers...we are ready now!Russ-Shettle wrote:This is all too funny. My OCD / Asperger's means I cannot stand a watch without the bezel and sub dials correctly aligned, so I volunteer to be a "resetter".

What do you think is causing it? I've sent it back to my watchmaker, who can't see the problem as it's working ok when he tests it. (It was generally at the start of the day, or when the power had run down, that it was doing it - if I ran the chrono constantly it was ok.)Russ-Shettle wrote:I think I know what may be causing that and it should be a simple fix. Sorry I didn't see this until just now, or I would have teleported you to Germany. I have to be in Germany by tomorrow evening Mr 28800, so I'll leave it with you. After all, how hard can it be?

But that would be so unoriginal, considering IWC just built a nuclear aircraft carrier for their SIHH gala last month. Complete with booth models dressed as sailors:Mortis wrote:Nice work!

Re: "SAVED" by my C700!
Based on your description: The second hand, when it rotates around, has an attachment on its wheel gear that pushes the 30 minute wheel gear one tooth at a time per rotation. The attachment appears like a thin wire, shaped at the end in order to make just the right contact, advancing the 30 minute dial one minute at a time. Adjustment of the actuator arm must be fairly precise. It could be jamming or hanging up against the 30 minute dial wheel. I sounds intermittent, not happening all the time, and as you say, only in the morning when you suspect it to be run down. quite possibly so but not the shuttering. You would need to make sure of this. I would think that your watch would have to be well wound down to the point of almost stopping.atnits wrote:What do you think is causing it? I've sent it back to my watchmaker, who can't see the problem as it's working ok when he tests it. The adjustment of the actuator is critical for proper strike in the advancement of the 30 minute dial hand. Are you sure your watchmaker knows everything about the 7750? I've read that it's a tough movement to work on. Not trying to judge him of his knowledge. I don't know him, of course, but does he know to check and make the adjustment? You might want to seek another watchmaker and ask him specific question pertaining to his knowledge and experience with this particular movement. Don's settle on just one inspection.
Has it malfunctioned since he looked at it? Your watchmaker would have had to remove the rotor bridge in order to make a visual inspection of this area. Perhaps the problem corrected itself with whatever he did. Observe what's happening if it does it again. At what point during rotation does the second hand begin to shutter? One spot? many spots? That's all important to know because the minute wheel actuator shouldn't make contact until about or just past the 59 second mark if the problem is the actuator. What you should observed during normal operation; the 30 minute dial will suddenly advance one minute each time the second hand rotates around to the 12 position. If the shuttering is taking place many seconds before the 60 second mark, 12 O'clock position, the problem may be entirely other than what I just described. I can only go by what you give as a symptom. Keep observing and if it continues to occur, describe the malfunction in more descriptive detail if you can. A lot is taking place mechanically to start and stop the second hand as well as to reset.
