Resetting Chronograph

Post by scampbell61 »

New C65 Chronograph with Sellita SW510 BH “a” not resetting to 12 o’clock. Is there a work around or does the watch need to go back to Christopher Ward?

I doubt it's like a quartz movement that includes reset options. The handbook would probably say if there was an adjustment mechanism.

No mention of a reset mechanism in the handbook.

I have the same model. As in, if you press the pusher at 4 o'clock the orange seconds counting hand doesn't reset to 12?

I'd say that's back to CW for a fix.

Does the chronograph work otherwise?

^^^ I'd say that's probably going to be right but can I just check how far you let the chrono run before pressing the reset pusher at 4 and did you give it one clean firm all the way?

I'm not saying this is the solution in the case of your new watch but sometimes running the chrono for just a few seconds doesn't give a clean reset so I'd let the chrono run for maybe a minute or two, stop it by pressing the top pusher and then give the reset pusher a good firm push.

EDIT: it may be a trick of the light but your pushers seem to project different distances from the case and they really shouldn't.

And also, I like the strap - it seems to have curved ends that hug the case? One of your own straps or one from CW?

Yes, as @tikkathree says, assuming the chrono works, give it a longer run and see if that makes a difference.

@tikkathree the pushers are screw down so they just look like that because they're unscrewed for use, mine looks the same

I have let the chronograph run for 10 minutes and still not resetting to 12 o’clock. :grumble:

Have you tried some of the typical hand reset methods?

I don't have this watch so I can't walk through the problem you've got but apart from ensuring that you've got the reset pusher all the way unscrewed so that it has its full range of movement to work with and letting the chrono run for longer - why not give it an hour or more - I think you're arranging a return under warranty. I'm sorry.

I had this happen with my C7 Rapide when it fell off of my nightstand. When I picked it up the chronograph second hand was on 58 seconds and when I ran it, it would only reset to that spot as well and I couldn’t get it to correct itself. Had to go to be fixed back to its regular position.

Thanks, it is on its way back to CW for repair. It was set at 12:02 when I opened the box. Might have happened during shipping?

Definitely possible. My wife is a supervisor at FedEx and I’ve heard some crazy things about what can happen to packages between point A and point B. With the number of hands and belts/rollers those boxes pass over and through, it’s amazing that things don’t get broken more often.
