Quartz...

Post by ColS »

Hi

Would love to see a Bulova style 262hz quartz (the one with the sweeping second hand). Any thoughts?

It’s just about four years now since Christopher Ward announced that they were finishing the production of quartz watches. There was almost a mini revival when the C63 Valour was introduced, but nothing else has appeared.

I’ve nothing against quartz, but I don’t see a future for it at CW.

Suspect you are right, however there is a market developing for 'high end' quartz so would be interesting to see if CW react.

Always happy to chuck in my two penneth! Whilst opinions vary among enthusiasts on quartz watches (most "normal" people don't really care), I suspect that that the two main factors impacting any decision by CW as to (possible) introduction of a watch like that you describe:

1) is there a movement like the Bulova 262Hz that is made in Switzerland, and available to CW? Because I think having "Swiss made" on the dial is important to CW and some of their customers.
2) Is there a watch that the owners would like to make that requires such a movement?

I don't personally believe that CW would make a quartz watch with a sweeping second hand "just because they can" - and is seems pretty obvious that CW could if they wanted to. But do they? Probably not.***

*** you can flag up this post in a few years time when, to my great surprise, CW release a quartz watch with a sweeping second hand that has been built in England for British Watchmakers day
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left

Interesting and valid point on a Swiss sourced quartz, personally my modest collection has a heavy automatic bias with only 2 quartz watches ( C3 GT and a Bulova Jetstar). Probably have one more space for a higher end quartz so one I'll keep an eye on.
Agree that CW are unlikely to 'just because they can' but it can be difficult to guess what they have in the pipeline..

Never underestimate CW. The built the SH21 Just because they could. They built a supercompressor just because they could. They built the Bel Canto just because they could.

Whether or not a practical and value priced Swiss mov't that you want is available, I don't know. Whether or not CW would even want to go down that road is unlikey IMO.
