Problem with Grand Malvern C1 accuracy
Re: Problem with Grand Malvern C1 accuracy
Thank you for all your helpfull remarks.
As a reminder, my first SH21 had a problem winding it clockwise. It was blocked. So I called CW after sales and they mentioned there were a mistake in the user manual and that winding were supposed to be done counter clock wise. So when I got my new SH21, I never doubt what has been mentioned by phone by CW.
I sent them the video yesterday and they aknowledged the issue was real and that they would proceed to replacement, even if watch had been worn.
Yesterday evening, as I was packing the watch back, I tried to wind it clockwise, and even it was a bit tought, it was not blocked compared to my previous one. So I did insist and good news > second hand started to move!
So your were correct, so did the user manual, but then I do not understand why the lady I had on phone the very first time mentioned the opposite. Maybe it was to avoid getting my watch back as the winding through crown were blocked.
At least, seems like everything is now in order. I must admit I feel a bit stupid on this, but it's also true that the SH21 manual winding is quite unusual as very tough (kind of a finger killer if you go with 100+ turns) .
Once again, thanks for the appreciated forum support!

Re: Problem with Grand Malvern C1 accuracy
Glad to hear all is sorted.
One question though. As it is an Automatic, why do you wind it 100+ turns?
You only need to wind it 10-15 turns to get it going and then put it on your wrist to wear.

Re: Problem with Grand Malvern C1 accuracy
Basically, this is in order to keep as close as possible to the COSC/good accuracy values which are intended to be reached with a fully wound watch. So if the original reserve is low and that I spend the folowing day in front of my computer not moving much, there is a risk that the charge will be limited and not enough to get a proper accuracy. That's why when I start wearing an automatic watch after a few days unworn, I always prefer to spend one minute fully charging it.Bahnstormer_vRS wrote:Glad to hear all is sorted.

Re: Problem with Grand Malvern C1 accuracy
Great news Adrien !!
It is quite a struggle on your fingers to do the full wind on an SH21 movement but as you said you will get an accurate measurement of it's time keeping.
A possible bit of confusion with CW telling you to go anti clockwise is that you do have to go this direction to change the date, perhaps this is where the confusion happened.
The most important thing is to now ENJOY that beautiful watch

Do you have a SH21 on your side as well? Do you confirm that the winding is not that smooth on it?

Re: Problem with Grand Malvern C1 accuracy
Maybe a silly suggestion and I'm purely speculating here, but could the tougher winding be anything to do with the dual barrel setup of the SH21?
I'd actually like to learn more on how this setup works in principle, so if anyone has any links ...

I have a C9 5 Day COSC. With the small crown it can be hard work to do over 100 winds but you get used to it.Adrien69 wrote:Yep.

The crown on the C1 is different so should be slightly easier to wind.

Hi every one!
Back with a new issue on my CW.
It was out of réserve for a few weeks and i decided to wear it today. I forgot to wind it and to set the time this morning and being very busy today, i did not noticed it. Back home, i was surprised that it did not start again although i had quite à long walk. So i tried the manual way and here s the result!!!

I just contacted cw and really hope for a prompt feedback....

Is the rotor free-spinning of does seem to be driven by the mainspring?

Wow! The mainspring is driving the rotor! That's got to be an issue with the clicker- I'm afraid it's going to have to go back again
