Previews: should we be more active?

Post by tikkathree »

I'm prompted to write this following the recent C65 Dune Preview and by Scooter's post on contacting Mike France. I always sign up here for the zoom platform new product previews and there's a conscious decision that I watch them through this forum rather than signing up to previews hosted by one of the facebook CW groups.

My mindset is to see the new offering/s, make a first assessment on which, if any, of the new products are for me, make a diary note of the launch date, have a look around to see who has signed in as visible and leave comments in the chat field on what aspects of the products appeal to me like "ooh nice dial colour!" Sometimes I've got questions on detail and post these in chat. I regret not asking a particular question about a bracelet option but so as not to breach the pre-launch embargo on the Dune I'll leave that there for now.

I think it's my "Brit" mentality to keep any negative or indifferent thoughts to myself and to express only positive opinions out loud. Thinking back I was more agitated at the C60 Concept and C1 Bel Canto previews and much less so at the Aquitaine and Dune previews.

Bearing in mind that we are being shown fully developed watches which are, in effect, ready for launch I wonder whether I could and should do more for CW at these events. Should I be quicker to react with "wouldn't a pink/peuce/purple dial look great"? I think I'm resolving to be more active at future launches.

As an aside, is the general trend for smaller cases bringing about a measurable reduction in the use of raw materials and manufacturing energy costs and if so why doesn't someone say so?

I would be very surprised if smaller/larger watches cost noticeably more or less to make. You don't see that in clothing, do you. One place where it would make a difference is in plane running costs, but you still don't get a discount or even a bigger baggage allowance for being a smaller person do you?

I think we are conditioned to do that. I don’t think I would blurt out my true feelings at a pre-launch presentation, or when someone is parading their new pride and joy.

No indeed but I think there have been previews when I could hear the tumbleweed rolling down the street.
