I gave in to temptation and ordered a C5 last night - it's quite different to anything else from CW in my collection and I don't think the smaller size will be an issue for me. Whilst I like the look of the C8, I own a P2725 which I prefer the more unique design of that although I now find it a little large to wear on a regular basis.

I think Christopher Ward has a plan to bankrupt me. :D

Had I not just sent funds to someone selling their old C5, I would have jumped immediately. I still may. ;)

I'm sure you'll be ok with the size Kev.

I'm used to larger watches too, but my 40.5mm Grand Malvern case CWs wear very nicely.

Re: Pre-launch Revival Model Exclusive

I would like to address the situation regarding the Pre-launch Revival Model Exclusive event yesterday.

Let me start by saying that The Admin Team is always attempting to come up with ideas and events that benefit the members of this forum. We want you to be rewarded for being active participants. We love that you support Christopher Ward and enjoy your love of horology. We are in constant contact with CW to arrange what we can that might be exclusive to this forum.

Sometimes it does seem that “No good deed goes unpunished.”

As of 8.am. (1;00 pm UK) everything was ready to go on our end. Due to the technical difficulties at CW this was obviously delayed. As it turned out CW was not ready until over 2 hours later. In the meantime some enterprising soul from another group discovered the site and posted the information which quickly spread. As I was now unavailable, the Admin Team did what they could to suppress the information in order to keep the exclusivity for the forum. One of the groups (CWE) was asked, and complied with the request to remove the information. In the meantime, some members, who likely read or belong to those groups, started accessing the CW site and posting information including photos. The Admin team did what they believed was the right thing deleting those photos to try and maintain the exclusivity.

At this point we had not yet sent out the link and password as we were awaiting word from CW that the site was ready. We were following the guidelines that we had set up with CW. Eventually the pm’s were sent and the website completely secured.

Were those on this forum that found and posted information morally wrong? Were those that complained that we were wrong for trying to protect the exclusivity of the event for members right or wrong? I guess that is for each member to decide. Those that were offended for the removal of photos who did not request the link or password have no ground to stand on in my opinion. Those that seek to be the first to leak info rather than point out the flaws to us should pursue other ways to feed their ego...in my opinion.

There was never a question here of the models selling out prior to official launch. Only the point of getting the first exclusive look and opportunity to buy. In the end and after the official launch of the Revival models, it really does not make much difference….this time. The troubling part for me is that there has been a breach of trust that some do not seem to grasp.

We acknowledge that CW need to get better at managing their website. We acknowledge that we may have overreacted. There is enough blame to go around. Miscommunications, technical difficulties and just plain screw ups. I only hope that we have all learned something here and if we have another event, we can pull it off flawlessly.

In my opinion, the idea of this event was to be exclusive to the forum members that requested the link and password. I never mentioned in the rules or in the pm sent with the link/password that photos should not be published until the ultimate launch by CW. I was wrong. I apologize for that. I should have been more specific. I rather thought that was implied as did the Admin Team members.

I do hope that those who purchase these Revival models enjoy them as I think they are fitting improvements to the originals. Many thanks to those that were patient and awaited the pm’s and/or reported the website flaws.

I've a 40mm C60 LE on the way too and am happy to wear a 40.5mm, although would say the 42mm Elite/Concept sits perfectly on my 'flat' wrists. The C8 is probably my least worn CW, but I do like having one in the collection........for now!

Well, deep breath and moderate language.... I'd seen the first notice of these models here in this very forum, looked at them, decided that they weren't for me so made no attempt to get on the password mailing list. (I know how poorly I can resist temptation at times so this was definite strategy for credit card safety   )

I saw the early posting in one of the facebook CW groups with a sense of deja vu: "oh, not again, not another "leak"."

We are quite a small online community with a fair degree of membership crossover. If things can be in the open, let them be so with complete transparency. If an initiative is going to be wholly exclusive to one or other of the three Facebook CW groups or to this forum surely it is for group members to respect this exclusivity?

It was a real privilege to have the opportunity to preview the revivals. As sad as this may be, it was nice to have something to look forward to on a first day back to work! All the work behind the scenes to make it happen is greatly appreciated.

For what it’s worth, I thought that the request not to share the link and password implicitly covered photos ahead of general availability. For anyone (on the forum) that wanted to see them, the sign up instructions in the first post were not onerous in the slightest.
Rich.

Very nicely put Kip.

Now, as recompense, a 24 hour exclusive link to the upcoming sale should suffice  Well, the password technology is tried & tested now!

I appreciate the reply Kip.
However, there are some serious flaws in the system and process.
If this was supposed to be a Forum exclusive then why did the CWE and CWA Facebook pages have access prior to the Forum.
Based on past experiences of limited edition launches and sales, things sell out fast so it seemed very unfair (at the time) to not point out the direct links that were available.
Deleting the posts/pictures did seem to be trying to stop the situation after the Horse had bolted.
Anyway, hopefully everyone has learned from this experience.

Thank you Kip and admin team members for all the effort to make this happen. And thank you again Kip for your observations on how things played out yesterday.

I see this as an example of letter of the law versus spirit of the law. Anyone sharing links to webpages inadvertently made live by CW is clearly violating the intent of this event and the spirit of the guidelines associated with it. I also think such actions are disrespectful to this community.

Posting pictures falls into a poorly defined grey area. It might seem reasonable to assume that not sharing pics was implied, but we all know what happens when we assume! I’ll point out that I actually inquired on the thread about the posting of screen shots for the benefit of those who wanted to see but not buy, but there was no response to my question. A lack of a “please don’t do that” could suggest doing so is fine.

Lessons learned for future events of this nature, I suppose.

Personally, given that selected members of this forum were supposed to have the first purchase opportunity of these watches, and that all forum members should (or could) have been aware of this, although some may not have been eligible, I didn't see any issue with pictures of the watches being posted. It may have just whetted the appetite for those who were interested. I wouldn't have seen any problem with pictures being trailed in advance by the the forum mods, when this thread was started.

My surprise was that the relevant pages of the CW website were accessible without the password, and that purchases could be made without it.

It's probably a salutary experience for CW, and no doubt if and when the same circumstances happen again, this won't happen. Am I right in thinking that last July the forum (and FB group?) sale preview was so successful, that very few watches became available for the general public? Maybe I am confusing it with something else.

In any event, this offer is not quite the same as a clearance of a limited handful of watches at a significant price reduction, and despite the issues, there still seems to be availability of all of the models.

Thanks for the candid response Kip.

For me all the - was it ok? Wasn't it? Can it be shared now somebody has shared it? Do pictures count? They did it first not me discussions are moot. We know that CW were trying to offer us an exclusive and it was clear that they weren't ready but word got out. It doesn't really matter how, it was clear what the intention was. The decision on sharing or not, morally or otherwise, is for individuals to make. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should, but it's a personal decision.

I'm not pointing fingers or trying to change anybody's view (I would fail, just as anybody trying to change my view would). We do what we do because we think it is right or ok to do it. For my part, I saw the links, but sat on them until it was clear that the formal release had taken place. (I knew if I had the chance to ask CW the question, that is what they would want me to do, and as a fan, I want to support their objectives).

I really appreciate that CW try and do these things for us and I appreciate that the admins try their best to make it happen. My concern is that if we fail to respect the spirit of what is trying to be achieved and/or relentlessly criticise at every turn, CW, the admins or both may decide it's all too much aggro and stop offering us these opportunities. That would be a shame, and all the arguments on what is right and wrong won't matter any more.
