Seemingly, since it is rare that people are actually asking CWL directly about the movement they are not going to change their policy.
So I think there is nothing more to be gained by this discussion, (apart maybe from hurt feelings) no?
.. . . and CWL will now be aware that a small majority of forum members, who subscribed to a poll, would like to know which movement is in their watch; bearing in mind that forum members (as a whole) represent <2% of CWL's customers.

All the best everyone trying to fathom this out. Try Steinhart ..plenty of transparency there and no need for 'smoke and mirrors'. Good luck.

Good lord. How did this turn into this? I'd like to know, but don't really care as both mvts are fine. Agree that only us nerds even pay attn to it, but to this nerd, it'd look better to put the specific mvt, but for such a small amount of people? Doubt it. When they do attain Rolex of Internet status, these small things will matter, but till then...

Following up on an offhand question I raised in an earlier post in this thread, I was still curious as to which Steinhart watch carries their ST-5 movement, so I did a quick search.

The movement is proudly announced on their site, and in 2013, their Ocean Vintage One was apparently their first watch that used this movement.

http://wornandwound.com/2013/12/03/new- ... archimede/

However, if you check their website now, the Ocean Vintage One is stated as using ETA. I can't find any watch on their site with ST-5 in it.

To be fair, I didn't click on the specs/details of every single watch in their webshop, but I did click on a fair number I spotted as "auto" but which were not described as "premium" (which looks to be reserved for Soprod A-10). The non-premium auto watches I clicked on were all ETA movements.

Is ST-5 being used at all? If no, why not? Was there something wrong with it and it was quietly withdrawn?

The ST-5 had several issues with power reserve etc so they have dropped it, lots of complaints on WUS.

And that is everyones prerogative.

Seems simple to me. CW have decided how they will document their watches. If that is unacceptable, then there are other watch manufacturers out there who can tell you the movement if it is so important to you.

If you want a vintage c60 however, you have to suck it up and just tell yourself it is the movement that you want it to be!

 So, it's the Schrödinger's movement. As long as I don't check, it can be both.

This is not a debate about ETA vs Sellita. I see this as an integrity issue. It's about being up front and honest with the customers. I think CW did this because they are afraid to loose sales IMO. We don't have to know where every nut and bolt comes from in a product, but the movement in an automatic watch is its heart and soul. ETA or Sellita doesn't matter to me, but if CW continues to market the watch this way it will only hurt them in the long run. My 2 cents.

an integrity issue?

look, if they're telling you it's an ETA and giving you sellita, then it's an integrity issue. if they're saying, "it could be either" and it's one of the two, there's no lack of integrity. they're being completely honest.

would i rather know? i guess so. would i buy a C60 whether i knew or not? yes. i don't really care that much because they're really not different enough to worry about it.

can't believe this has lasted 8 pages of whinging.
