I currently use a Sky Caddie, but have been wondering about these. How well does it seem to work for you and what about accuracy? Have you compared it to other devices?lloyd_m wrote:I wear this watch when I play golf - £133 from Amazon.
It's no looker but it tells me how far away from the green I am. When I've finished I throw it in the car and put on a C700 or C60.

Re: Playing Golf
Pros:
It's lightweight and it is very easy to use as you just glance at your wrist - no rummaging around your bag for a range finder.
It gives you the middle, front and back of the green.
It can measure how far you have hit your ball.
You don't have to be able to see the flag to get the distance.
No yearly subs - course updates are free.
Cons:
It is not as accurate as a range finder, but a range finder can sometimes be difficult to get a reading on the flag.
I have stood next to my playing partner, who has the same watch and they can differ by up to 10 yards.
It doesn't give you distance to the pin, just to the green.
It's a bit plasticky but does the job.
Overall, it's very handy as a reference and makes club selection easy.

Take a look. Take a guess. Pick a club. Give it some tap. Probably why I was cr@p at golf!

Phil Mickelson wears his rolex when he plays. I just ordered a C60 on NATO and plan to wear it golfing. I like to wear a nice watch when I golf. I feel cool when I have one on. And I play better when I feel cool.

C50 COSC Manual
says the same but in different wording (omitting the fact that you can drop it on carpeted surfaces...)
C7 (quartz)
so the official CWL line would seem to be don't play sports unless it is quartz...
however they are only saying that you 'may not want to...' i.e. it is not forbidden - the watch should be fine - and the surrounding text relates to knocks - not fast movement... so it would seem to suggest that the issue is potential knocks - not excessive speed of movement...

C20 - non-coscYour watch is fitted with the finest Incabloc anti-shock system which should protect it if dropped onto a carpeted surface. However it is best to avoid hard surfaces or sharp knocks. You may not want to wear your watch whilst playing raquet sports, for instance.

I correct my previous statement, the manual suggests the possible consideration of not wearing your watch for playing racket sports. - if like me you are more of a green digger than a semi pro golfer I would opt for something a little more suited to rough and tumble and leave the preciosion machinery for the club house.

Always have mine on when I play and it's never affected my swing at all.
On Sunday I shot 88 at The Belfry while wearing my Orange Monster, and no, that wasn't the front 9

Re: Playing Golf
Thanks for the info. I do use a range finder as well. It seems that the Gamin has the same issues as my Sky Caddy. Sometimes you get on a tee surrounded by trees and just can't get a satellite reading.lloyd_m wrote:Pros:

The plus of course is no annual fees and it would seem to be more convenient. May have to wait until the Sky Caddy dies.
