Paying for a CW

Post by stefs »

Just a quick one...
I am certain that in the past when I have ordered a cw they only took payment from your card when they despatched the item. I have pre ordered
one of the 38mm twelves and they have already taken payment for a watch that is not going to available until some time in August!
A bit cheeky in my view but is this the way they operate now or am I going to get a despatch email saying it is coming early?
Cheers now, Paul

Yep take the money upfront for preorders. Has been that way now for a couple of years IIRC.

Believe it or not, I have only ever bought one CW new on pre-order. This was the Twelve Ti last year. I reserved and paid up after the Zoom preview, thinking that the watch would arrive early May, but it was put back to the beginning of June (I know Neil will remember that because we exchanged PMs).

I’ve just been into my CC statements and I see that the payment went through on 27 April 2023. Seems to bear out your own experience.

Ok Thanks both. Can't say I am impressed to be honest. Certainly never used to be that way and I am not a fan of them taking money for things they don't have in stock to sell. Even Rolex dealers don't do that

Be grateful you're not buying a Bespoke edition model, Paul.

Pay in full on order; wait 9 - 12 months for delivery; as I did for both my Bel Canto Phoenix and C12 VULCANXII.

Just the way it goes. :-k. :-k

Maybe they should refund the interest they accrue?

Yes it definitely flipped at some point from only taking payment when dispatched to taking payment on order....although I don't recall when that happened, it was a while ago.

Just thinking out loud…

I paid in full on Monday for a trip I’m going on in October. They’ve taken the money, they’re not waiting until I get on the plane or anything.

I thought there were rules about charging credit cards before supply.

Eg Here's a link to some US information, state of Georgia.

From the article you linked...It is not illegal to charge for pre-orders.

And it is stated in the CW terms and conditions so they can do it.

@nycWATCHnerd

Thanks for that. I can see CW cover it by mentioning what they do in the event of a card provider not authorising payment.

I often worry that people outside the USA do not always realize how much our government backs big/small business over the needs of the little people (no matter who is president - and no, this is not a political statement but rather an unfortunate statement of fact).

Yep, and as I have done for my WYRD Bel Canto. Was told it was shipping on Monday, my account still shows it as being prepped for shipping...

Hold my beer…

14 months from payment to delivery for my ‘23 FLE. Just a blink of the eye in the big scheme of things, and it already seems like I’ve had it forever!

Be glad it’s not an anOrdain you’re seeking. Deposit now, based on price now, does not necessarily lock you into the full price at delivery, currently sporting a five year queue. Your deposit will be accounted in the final price you pay on delivery. ;)
