Hold my beer…
14 months from payment to delivery for my ‘23 FLE. Just a blink of the eye in the big scheme of things, and it already seems like I’ve had it forever!
Whereas that delay had the opposite effect on me. I gradually lost all excitement and enthusiasm for the watch. When it finally arrived I thought all was forgiven as it looked great but it didn’t last. I never really bonded with it, wore it less than 10 times and moved it on. Had it arrived within the initial 4-5 months quoted at the point of sale I might have had a different bonding experience with it and have kept it.
My point is that paying upfront is fine as long as there are no unexpected delays to sour your buying experience. I’ll only ever buy watches that are available now after the FLE.

This mirrors my feelings on delayed deliveries. It just seems to take the shine off things when they are paid for and then delayed. Watch purchases are primarily emotive and disappointment is a very negative emotion to attach to an item. It is one of the reasons why I am very unlikely to order any more CW products.

I think it depends on the person and the situation...
I am not one for pre-paying and waiting months, not even weeks, for a watch or anything else to arrive. My attitude is have the goods ready or do not put them up for sale.
My younger brother, will patiently wait days/weeks/months and is happy to have the watch/item whenever it arrives. It does not take away the joy for him because the purchase is not part of the joy, only the item is.
As an interesting example, Jody from Just One More Watch released a 38mm version of his diver watch and explicitly said in the launch video that "they wanted to have watches on hand to sell/ship immediately even though stock is limited". He went on further to say that his (new) company "is trying to find the right mix of pre-order and available stock for all future launches".
I prepaid for a kick Starter, not ever so expensive, but a pain as delivery targets were missed repeatedly, and the supplied watches weren't all specced correctly when delivered. It's put me off KS although never say never.

Hamtun Watches, a so-called established microbrand, put me off KS forever.
For me some available at launch with pre-orders when those are gone is probably the best. I don't like lotteries or limited 'windowed' ordering. Of course, the bespoke projects are different. Unless you get lucky and hook up with one that has the resources to meet the funding up front before sale you will be paying and waiting. I'm okay with that.
I'm probably a little more tolerant than others having built products for my entire career. I understand what goes on behind the scenes and know that suppliers aren't always the most reliable.

An MCC is a four-digit number that classifies the type of goods or services a business offers. MCCs were originally developed for tax reporting purposes but are now a key piece of payments processing.
good to know if you are making big purchases, to make sure you qualify for credit card perks (certain codes are excluded from benefits depending on the theme of the credit card)

Just thinking out loud…
I paid in full on Monday for a trip I’m going on in October. They’ve taken the money, they’re not waiting until I get on the plane or anything.
Exactly this! I've got flights, rugby tickets and festival tickets all booked for mid/late 2025 and all needed to be paid at time of booking. I don't mind it all as long as communications are good!
(And working in hospitality, I'd love this to transfer to restaurant bookings and deposits as well, but that's a separate conversation!)
