Oh No!! A C8 Vintage Pilot In A Black Case.
Re: Oh No!! A C8 Vintage Pilot In A Black Case.
Bugger the logo! The silver date surround was bad enough on the straight vintage model, on the black version it just looks terrible!

I'll join the chorus of lone voices. I don't like it either.Leo David wrote:Oh dear, I'm going to be a lone voice here. I don't like it at all.

+2 Black cases definitely not for me. Too big anyway. A "vintage" version of the C5A might tempt me though.Jammy Devil wrote:I'll join the chorus of lone voices. I don't like it either.Leo David wrote:Oh dear, I'm going to be a lone voice here. I don't like it at all.

IF the date surround wasn't so intrusive, & IF it didn't crowd the '3' (a problem for me with C8/C80's in general) so much, I might be tempted

This may be a silly question but will the black coating wear off and if so, how long will it last.

I'm sure the coating will not wear off! In fact there must be something very special about it as the black coated watch at £415 is £50 more expensive that any other C8 including the yet to be released Vintage which has the same tan strap!seaclose wrote:This may be a silly question but will the black coating wear off and if so, how long will it last.
Maybe we will get an explanation?
Robin
PS The case can't be all that special as it fails to get a mention in the spec.

I just posted the same question on another thread. Is there a risk of PVD wearing off down the road, or scratches being more visible if steel is revealed? I've seen cheap gold finish wear out on some watches, not sure if there is same risk here.

My experience has been that there may be some wearing on sharp edges but the main body should be fine

Some wear down to metal on the edges could give a watch like this a nice vintage "patena", though I am sure this would only happen if it had very hard life.
No more Quartz (except when I cannot resist).

Re: Oh No!! A C8 Vintage Pilot In A Black Case.
Even after a few day's reflection, I still think this and the Vintage offer good style and amazing value, even at their slightly higher price. I'd rate them as offering 90% of the Bell & Ross WW1 series at a fifth of the price, and 99.9% of the population wouldn't notce any difference at all.
Yes, the silver date on the black version is a bit odd, the face isn't quite as classic as the B&R and the case lug design is much more modern, but just at the moment there's a lot I could do with the 1800 quid saved, plus I do like a watch with a date...

Looks like a beauty. I admit I'm not a fan of the silver date ring, but it's not too distracting. I'm a huge fan of the B&R vintage, and this watch looks fantastic even next to the B&R.

Agreed. I'm really not bothered by the date ring either. For someone who really loves the B&R, I think this is a great alternative. I'm not sure that I'll be able to resist getting one.nahminator wrote:Looks like a beauty. I admit I'm not a fan of the silver date ring, but it's not too distracting. Re: Oh No!! A C8 Vintage Pilot In A Black Case.
Yeah, I had a moderato-grotty day at work today, but got paid for a big report I wrote a while ago so the obvious solution was...
..to pre-order that PVD vintage C8 I'd been sort-of resisting
I feel a lot better now.
I shall probably now sell my C20 Lido since it's not going to get enough wrist time, so anyone interested should keep an eye on the 4sale area.
