In the years I've been knocking about this forum I don't think I've seen anyone express this about a watch. I can understand the confidence sentiment; I wouldn't mind betting that it is quite prevalent with people wearing more higher end watches. I guess there's a notion of some kind of perceived status. My watches provide me with a feeling of confidence but it's derived more from their inherent durability, a sense that they won't let me down. I like that.

Starting in a field where a Rolex was the sign of success, I was happy going under the radar with a high quality watch that didn't scream "Hey!! Look at me. I'm wearing a Polo oxford and an expensive watch." Instead, I wore oxfords from Lands End and had them monogrammed, so I was advertising myself and not Ralph L. Because at the time, Rolex was making 800,000 watches per year and Blancpain was making 8,000, I believed I wore something special, even though it was not recognized by my peers.
Nothing wrong with swimming against the current. A very valid choice to make.

I wore my 1675 as my only watch for nearly 25 years. It was no big deal. I wasn't trying to impress anyone. I used the GMT function quite often and it was in some circumstances necessity. I can't ever remember anyone ever noticing my watch. Back when I bought mine if you wanted to project status you got something from Movado or something in yellow gold like a day-date. Everything else was just a watch regardless of what logo was on the dial.

I wore my 38.5 Seiko solar for two weeks straight just recently. It was supposed to be one week at a client site, but got extended for a second week. It was a good choice, accurate and comfy, but I could hear the rest of the watch box calling out in loneliness and neglect, like a cat that can almost see the bottom of the food bowl.

Paphos, south-west corner. I spend Christmas and New Year there every year. I love it.

I spent a little over a week in Paphos with some friends living there. Loved it and dang near rented a place long term.
