I don't like to wear a watch for just one day. I like at least two, although occasionally it will be one.

After 18 days I decided on a change.

My answer is no to both questions.

I have a small pool of watches on my table that is rotated roughly every month. Within any particular month, I will wear those in the pool a fair bit but never the same one for more than 2 or 3 consecutive days. Much depends on what watch (or sometimes 2 watches!) I feel is appropriate for a particular day.

I have two or three that I have worn everyday for between one to two months at a time. However that probably doesn’t count, as whilst I did wear the same watch each day, it was not always the only watch worn on a particular day.

I wore my Blancpain Trilogy GMT 24/7 for 8 years. It felt like a part of me. I did, however, put it in my pocket if I was going to put my hand in a position of risk. Ultimately, the Blancpain gave me a quiet sense of confidence.

In the years I've been knocking about this forum I don't think I've seen anyone express this about a watch. I can understand the confidence sentiment; I wouldn't mind betting that it is quite prevalent with people wearing more higher end watches. I guess there's a notion of some kind of perceived status. My watches provide me with a feeling of confidence but it's derived more from their inherent durability, a sense that they won't let me down. I like that.

When I had a few watches I'd wear them for a lot longer (months etc), but as the collection has widened I try and alternate as much as possible. New watches get more wear to start with then go into general rotation.
Still have favourites, but long term wear (1 Week +) only happens if I go away now

Interesting how different folk think in different ways Des. Maybe linked to their own views on folk that have high end watches.

The subconscious mind is, well subconscious!

My interpretation of the comment was that the confidence came from wearing a robust accurate watch, with decent WR, that could just be worn and forgotten about, knowing it was unlikely to let the wearer down.

Notice the way I used to wording 'quite prevalent' to suggest some not all, Neil. Big houses, flash cars, expensive watches etc, etc. There is an element of people that partake in those things for conferred status. You might not be comfortable with that but, I'm sorry, it's born out by fact. I was not suggesting this was the case with the OP, Leon O, either. He did speak of taking his watch off and putting it in his pocket if he had to put his 'hand in a position of risk". If that 'risk' was feeling that his watch stood to experience some kind of damage, well then I draw a quiet confidence from my watches knowing they are better suited to hostile environments than many others. Alternatively that risk might be someone trying to steal a high value item from him, he did not define what the risk was.

I had a feeling you might pick me up on my comment; it must have just been my subconscious at work...

Starting in a field where a Rolex was the sign of success, I was happy going under the radar with a high quality watch that didn't scream "Hey!! Look at me. I'm wearing a Polo oxford and an expensive watch." Instead, I wore oxfords from Lands End and had them monogrammed, so I was advertising myself and not Ralph L. Because at the time, Rolex was making 800,000 watches per year and Blancpain was making 8,000, I believed I wore something special, even though it was not recognized by my peers.

There’s nothing wrong with the feel good factor of wearing a high class watch. I’ll be swanning round in a posh hotel at Christmas and I’ll be wearing my Ulysse Nardin. I’m 100% certain that no-one will recognise or comment, and I won’t be telling them. But I’ll know.
