+1 to add to the congratulations.

As to a watch for the lad I would suggest you get that pesky Trident engraved with his name, date and time of birth and make it an 18th birthday gift. Don't worry, you can leave what you replace it with to him in your will :wink: 8)

Best wishes to you and yours :D

Congratulations to both you and the missus. Job well done!

The watch is fine...let it go and focus on the family right now.

Congratulations Mark and to Domestic Management and of course to your other little ankle biter, a little brother to fight with, a great day for everyone....!

In fact to round it off, why not go out and order another CW to celebrate...! :lol:

Congratulations and best of luck to all for the future. I suppose you'll be too tired to post anything soon!

BTW, get it regulated if it still plays up. The watch not the baby! :lol:

Cheers,
Jack.

for what its worth... my C5 Aviator, which i believe is the same movement, only loses 2 seconds a day. Now while thats clearly extremely good, its also quite rare. However, i'd be disappointed in any automatic watch that was more than 15 seconds in a day out.

i mean 30 seconds in a day would be ridiculous, you'd be 3 mins out by the time you got to the end of the week. Not exactly useful if you're doing things like catching a train or going to a meeting!

I as well as many, appreciate that a mechanical watch can never be perfect, but I dont expect to have to reset the time every single week, let alone every few days. Even my cheapo LIDL auto is only 6 seconds a day out. On a watch like that, i can get away with checking the timing once every few weeks.

if it doesnt settle down with use, send it back to be regulated.

Congratulations, Mark! 8)
Missed your announcement, as I was offline for most of the time.
Good to see faces on here, normally all we do are wrists! :lol:
I hope your good lady and the boys are doing fine, and the Trident is behaving itself :D

Many congratulations on the new arrivals :)

These specs, below, for the ETA 2824-2 movement might fill in some background, particularly the figures for maximum daily variation.

One point of interest is that the physical position of the watch has an effect on how fast/slow it will run. Since gravity always works in the down direction, the orientation between the movement and the gravitational field change the rate at which the watch records time.

As has been mentioned elsewhere, some members use this effect to improve the day to day time keeping of their watches by leaving them in a particular position, crown up, crown down, face up , face down and so on, when stored overnight. If done correctly this can compensate for errors accrued during the period when the watch has been worn.

Though no doubt you will be far too busy enjoying your new arrival to waste time checking the timekeeping of your Trident in its various orientations :)
One workhorse of the ETA mechanical line is the ETA 2824-2, The 2824 is an automatic winding, twenty-five (25) jewel movement, available in four executions or grades: Standard, Elaborated (improved), Top and Chronometer.[4] The key components which differ at the line of demarcation between Elaborated and Top are the barrel spring, shock protection system, pallet stones, balance wheel & hairspring and the regulator mechanism. In contrast, since the addition of the "-2" at the end of the movement number, there has been no difference between the standard and the chronometer grades in terms of the regulator mecanism, both being Etachron. To illustrate the differences in accuracy garnered by the successive grades, consider the following specifications:
the Standard grade is adjusted in two positions with an average rate of +/-12 seconds/day, with a maximum daily variation of +/-30 seconds/day;
the Elaborated grade is adjusted in three positions with an average rate of +/-7 seconds/day, with a maximum daily variation of +/-30 seconds/day;
while the Top grade is adjusted in five positions with an average rate of +/-4 seconds/day, with a maximum daily variation of +/-10 seconds/day.
I'm not sure what the corresponding specs are for the Sellita SW200, but given their close similarity in design it seems reasonable to believe they would be similar.

Perhaps a CWL guru might be able to say which grade of movement is fitted to your Trident.

Hearty congratulations to you and your wife, Mark. I have two sons, both grown now, but their births are certainly memorable times. And they do grow up quickly so cherish your time with them now.
