As he says the problem is with the wifi then it does not matter what the connection is. It is the wireless in the router that would be the problem. Sounds like a new router is needed.

If connection between the node & router is weak depending on what router it is can kill wifi & still allow RJ45 ports open at a very slow rate , I know the virgin media hub that my fibre line plumbs in to . will cut my wifi yet still allow RJ45 Ports open as I can plug my laptop into port 1 & get 56kbps connection speed for emergency if I have a up stream & down stream lights on. but if on copper I would ask for a new router & also a new line & also filter to be sent out. As copper only has a life time of 10yrs even my line needs renewing shortly.ianblyth wrote:As he says the problem is with the wifi then it does not matter what the connection is. I think I found the problem. The hampster has a bump on his head. He must have tripped and knoocked himself out awhile.

Thank you for your concern chaps. I really have no idea whether the connection is copper or fibre. All i can say is that the connection more or less works only when i plug in the cable from the router to my laptop. I suppose i should bite the bullet and phone virgin media but honestly the thought of waiting in a phone queue makes my heart sink and life's just too short!JAG wrote:If connection between the node & router is weak depending on what router it is can kill wifi & still allow RJ45 ports open at a very slow rate , I know the virgin media hub that my fibre line plumbs in to . will cut my wifi yet still allow RJ45 Ports open as I can plug my laptop into port 1 & get 56kbps connection speed for emergency if I have a up stream & down stream lights on. but if on copper I would ask for a new router & also a new line & also filter to be sent out. Sorry for stating the obvious, but have you turned the wireless and the router off and on again?
So I wish I was James Bond, just for the day.

Yes, and if that doesn't work, try switching the Internet off and on againRichard B wrote:Sorry for stating the obvious, but have you turned the wireless and the router off and on again?

Thanks. It's not obvious to me. Not only do I have zero interest in how these things work I cant even drum up the enthusiasm to find out what to do when they go wrong. Anyway, I just turned the router off at the mains and back on again and it seems much improved so thank you!Richard B wrote:Sorry for stating the obvious, but have you turned the wireless and the router off and on again?
