New Tropic Strap, Love It But It's A Different Shape

Post by Woolwich »

The launch of the new Super Compressor also saw the launch of the strap I always wanted, a Tropic Rubber blue with orange highlights.
It arrived this afternoon, my first impression was "oh no" as they've radically changed the strap shape. However on the wrist , yes it looks daintier than the "original" but for me the colours absolutely suit the watch. Having spectacularly thin wrists the strap looks okay but I put this post out to raise awareness for potential buyers with thicker wrists, the thinner strap "may" not work for you.

I think it must be quite hard to make two colour rubber. that's probably why you see so many single colours ones.

The extra bit of orange sets it off very well doesn't it.

So the new strap has a greater taper. Yes?

22mm > 18mm?

As opposed to a more customary 22mm > 20mm.

That combo looks fantastic. Definitely one of CW's most unique watches.

@JAFO Absolutely, if this had been the standard option from new I probably wouldn't have bought any other replacements.

@Bahnstormer_vRS it actually looks closer to 16mm using the tape measure I just found.

@DEV.Woulf Yes it's a lovely looking watch, I'm increasingly not saving it for best and actually wearing it regularly. The new strap solves the first world problem of not having to take two straps on holiday next week, it covers both smart and casual , albeit fairly noticeable smart, in one go.

@Woolwich
Is that ocean blue, or a different colour?
I saw one at a local watch fair, and thought how nice it was in real life.

@JAFO Yes it's the Ocean Blue, I bought it about 3 months ago new. I do quite like the Super Compressor Elite but for me the simpler dial and the ability to see the ocean blue finish without other graphics on the face wins out for me.

Thanks.

That kinda makes sense, as CW will be able to use the same buckle on the 20mm versions that will be 20mm > 16mm, in the same way as, with the Cordovan straps on Bader deployant, CW used one 20mm Bader on both the 20mm (straight) and 22mm (tapered) straps.

Very distinctive, should be a great watch for a summer’s evening.

That's the plan :) it, and me, are on a Med Cruise later this week and now with what I consider to be The Ultimate Super Compressor Strap I'm leaving the camel leather strap at home and able to do days and nights with just the one.

Photographed just now ,5.30pm, on a holiday cruise ship moored off the coast of Italy. Yes it's fair to say this ensemble works well in the summer!
