Re: New sales-corner rule
Seriously though, I've never quite understood these minimum post rules, while it may not really be in the spirit of things no-one is obliged to buy and if you can get a bargain so much the better.
I'm always faintly amused when members bemoan sellers who picked something up in the sale and are then trying to make a bit of profit on it. Good luck to them, if people don't like it then maybe they should have bought the item themselves when it was on sale?
I do get the point about scammers etc but once again if you don't like the look of the seller don't go for the sale.
I also get the bit about the forum being a place to chat about this and that and watches with sales as an "add-on" but in that case maybe we shouldn't worry so much about the Sales Corner. If you were in the with some like minded friends and somebody came in offering you a watch, you could buy from them if you felt happy with the deal or you could so "no thanks" but you wouldn't insist they drank in the pub for 30 nights till you were prepared to buy the watch?
Just an opinion........

Re: New sales-corner rule
My 2 cents and recent experience. Bought an Ad Astra from a Newbie poster (20 posts) and the watch showed up on time and in the condition advertized. So I'm happy he was able to post and I was able to buy. I don't see how 10 additional posts would have changed things. If he was a rat with 20 posts he'd still be a rat with 30...
But he was just the opposite.
I think the question to be asked and answered by long standing members is "are newbie posts selling watches a problem"? How many problem transactions have there been?
I have not been around long enough to answer.

Re: New sales-corner rule
As a fairly new member who reads lots of posts everyday, learning about watches and who is looking to purchase a CW and get into the 'club' I generally look at the watches for sale every day, this is now a real disappointment.
Can this rule be changed to 'need 30 posts' to sell a watch maybe??
I have finally decided I will be purchasing a new Trident GMT in the near future, however it is nice to see whats out there
Great Forum apart from this by the way

Re: New sales-corner rule
This new policy has been put in place after much discussion by the "Team". It is something that has been ongoing for about a year now. We do realize that not everyone will be happy with the new rule, but we do believe it is for the greater good of all.
It has really been put in place as a matter of minimizing exposure to scammers and predators who have an increasing prescence as we have grown. Since the installation of the preapproval policy for Newbies we have been able to prevent most from even getting onto the forum, but we cannot prevent them all.
In order to buy/sell it takes a lot of trust, especially on the internet. Although minimum post requirements are certainly no guarantee that you would still not have an issue, we do believe, based on the posting records of members, that thirty posts should be sufficient to get to know a bit about someone. If we find that this is not sufficient than it will addressed again.
The problems/complaints have been minimal, but enough to warrant this new rule. It is the goal of The "Team" to provide an atmosphere of trust to the members as well as can be expected. The CW forum accepts no responsibility for transactions between individuals but does wish to assist those buyers and sellers who are looking.
As always it is buyer/seller beware.

I think you are able to read the for sale section (with less than 30 posts) before signing in. I just joined a short while ago and have already passed 30 posts; it's not a very onerous threshold to surpass, merely greeting new members will reduce the task by half ... I encourage you to stick it out...especially since we're neighbours.

Re: New sales-corner rule
JAG showed the definition of a forum and 30 posts isn't a requirement
I just tested the theory of not logging in and was able to see the sales corner. I can understand members wanting some posting from members to be able to sell but not for looking. And here we have the nonsense of someone who hasn't even taken the trouble to join having more access than a member with 15 posts. This is just perverse!
And in response to Village my assertion that about 90% of forum members having less than 30 posts is just pointing out a fact, not trying to prove anything. Other than maybe the forum exists for everyone with an interest in CW not just the 350 members who like to chat.

Re: New sales-corner rule
I know it's a gross over reaction but I can't tell you how much this has hacked me off. I've been a member since 2010 and a visitor to the site for a lot longer than that. I own 4 CW watches. Not a great poster I know unlike some other sites I belong to for other interests; I find this site interesting but find there is little I can add to a debate. I am however a frequent lurker - normally 2 to 3 times a week. I like, as today, to very occasionally browse the For sale and Wanted parts of the forum. I now feel degraded to a 2nd class member. Silly I know but that's the effect it has had.
