markshaf wrote:Hi,

Slightly surprised that I can't even browse the watches for sale, not arguing about it, just surprised. I totally get that I wouldn't be able to sell without posting 30 messages, but it would be nice to see the 2nd hand watches that are for sale. To be clear I'm considering the purchase of a second CW watch - I have a C5 Malvern Aviator Mk II which I love - I'm not looking to sell.
Welcome to the forum... :)

as you will see in many answers to questions about the sales area - the 30 posts is about people actually joining in within the community so others can get to know them - it helps with trust etc. In this last week I have had someone pay me £100s for a watch, and I have also paid someone £100s for a watch - both done without hesitation as we feel that we understand each other and can trust because we know something about the other person...

if you could view (not post) before your 30 post count, there would be nothing to stop you from sending a PM / email / posting elsewhere on the forum to request purchase / sell a watch - it would defeat the purpose of the 30 posts... so there is no point in being able to view such posts...

and 30 posts is nothing for anyone who genuinely wishes to be involved... mind you when you see someone come - post and then post 31 is to buy / sell a watch, I personally wouldn't deal with them either - there is no safety net in trading through here as there would be on ebay, so the safety comes in getting to know each other...

and the vast majority of watches listed in the sales corner are ebay sales, not private ones - you can see those on my tracking site at: www.watchroll.com :)

Hi Akirk

Thanks for posting the link. I have to agree on both sides of this argument though. The first post I made here probably in 2011 was to buy a beautiful C4 special with a red face and then bought a new C7 Rapide. I don't tend to post much but always like to check out the site if I am in the mood for a new watch (I currently have 10 at the moment!). Not being to view the sales disappoints me but I can understand the security it does give to the sellers too. A suggestion could be to allow sellers make up their own mind though and take the chance on a newbie (like me) if they wish. Your link does go someway to helping mind!

I suspect it's more a case of a recent heavy influx of 1st time posters signing up to just sell watches rather than contribute.
as a noob here & looking possibly to purchase at some point, in what way & how can I contribute? I feel I'm more in the learning phase and am really lurking, learning & scoping out the scene. What if anything can I contribute, if anything?? As I would like to be a part of this community..

ask questions. join conversations. not every conversation is about watches, either. there's an off topic board as well.

Post pics of your watches (CW or otherwise), pets, vehicles, etc!

Gents,
Just registered, but just read the new sales corner rules... to be fair the only reason i registered was to offer my watch for sale, I liked it on line, but have been disappointed with the real thing. I have Omega and Bulova timepieces but the CW just doesn't suit me.
Its the C11 black MSL Mk 1 Automatic - Vintage edition.
It was a Christmas present 2012 and I have worn it for about a month in total.
I understand the forum policy but this is a genuine reason for selling and my thoughts were to give forum members the first chance, however, I do not have the time or interest in posting 30 times.
If anyone would like details then let me know.

I understand what you are saying here, but this is not what this forum is about.

Unfortunately, if you are not interested in sticking around and participating you may have much better success moving the C11 elsewhere.

We would love to have you get to know us, and for us to know about you. Perhaps you can stay awhile. You might even find you like it here. :)

Welcome Taffy - as Kip says, not really the purpose of a forum - ebay is much more geared up to be a sales board - the sales corner here is really an extra privilege for those who are regular members of the community - by knowing and trusting each other it gives them a safer environment in which to sell items... however you will find a much wider audience with ebay, so if that is the only interest, you may be better off there...

however we would much rather you joined in - perhaps start a thread on the watch / why it doesn't suit you and what you want from a watch - there are members on here who have no CWL watches at all - either because they are saving up, or perhaps because their interests have changed...

Omega and Bulova are certainly well known brands on here - both in the modern / classic forms

A polite request to forum members who use the Sales Corner;-

If you sell or withdraw your watch / item, will you please mark your Sales Post as such and not leave it as For Sale.

I've tried to buy two watches on the forum in the last 10 days to find that both have been 'sold on ebay'.

In frustration and disappointment . . .

This seems harsh. I am starting to collect the C70 series and will find it hard to post 30. I want to post about wanting to buy rather than to sell. Would spammers want to buy?
