New owner: C11 Makaira's

Post by Hooley »

Hi All

I nearly bought a C11 MSL when they were offered as a 'clearance sale' about 8 or so years ago, and have rued it ever since. So for quite a few years I have been casually looking online for a C11. I toyed with the idea of getting a Bell and Ross, or something similar with the pilot hands, but kept coming back to the CW.

About 3 weeks ago I found not one, but 2 CW C11's for sale and agreed to buy one and put an offer on the second (eBay) thinking it was a low-ball and wouldn't be accepted. So now I have 2. I wanted one and have a selection issue.

Should I keep both? dress and day-to-day watch? Sell one? if so which?

Big dilemma :)

Cheers
J

Blimey!

The Makaira Elite and Extreme are usually rare as hen's teeth, and you've gone and found both in short order.

Congratulations.

What to do? Keep them both and wear them to death.

Bit like waiting for a bus isn't it? Nice dilemma to have though after waiting eight years though!

I concur with the other replies: keep ‘em!

You’ve looked for these, they’re very uncommon, they’ve become available. All signs they should be your keepers.

I have owned both of these C11 variants in my time, as well as four other versions of the C11. They are absolutely great looking watches with a nice pop of colour. Of the two I would probably slightly favour the Elite in yellow but if you can then I'd hang on to both of them.

Has to be said though - it’s only on a watch forum that you’d get overwhelming endorsement to keep both!

I’d be shot. The wife has yet to realise the two are different, as they are yet to be seen in the same place at the same time.

I must admit, it my favourite by far in the CW stable. Some of the others are a little too fussy for me.

Both brilliant. Personally even though I prefer the colour of the extreme I would keep the elite as it is thinner and a bit easier to wear.
Cheers now, Paul

First off, I really like these, they're very unusual. They look like something Captain Nemo might wear. As for some of the other CW's being too fussy? These Makaira's are BIG, the hour and minute hands look like kipper ties, they have three crowns and they're day-glow...very day-glow. Fussy? Possibly.

I must admit the time-keeping has surprised me.
I’ve worn the Extreme 1000 for the last week and it has only gained 2 seconds.

Because it’s titanium it feels quite light and does not feel at all bulky or weighty. I tend not to wear shirts, so I don’t have the sleeve issue with the height.

I’ve got a Panerai Luminor GMT that feels twice the weight of the Makaira.

As the Elite is in slightly better condition, (the extreme is 8.5/10 and the Elite is 9.5/10) I’m saving that for ‘best’, even though it should be the other war around.
