Re: New ideas
Loco? Bel Canto? Moonphase? Not so sure anymore. I would agree that a few years ago it looked as though they were stuck on those categories, and they have certainly proved popular.
I would agree that the chronograph element is a little bit lacking at the moment, as is the pure dress watch element. But I think that perhaps CW learned the pitfalls of trying to be all things to all people a few years ago, when the catalogue was much more eclectic/ecumenical. Focusing a little more narrowly in recent years has helped them to achieve greater originality and higher quality. Just my opinion, obviously.

Re: New ideas
I agree. Loved the motorsport ranges and I owned these four. CW had some great designs and colours (I also liked but haven’t owned the black C7 with the red barrel). The C70 and C7s went as the aluminium bezels were a magnet for scratches so found I wasn’t wearing them (and it has put me off buying second hand even in mint condition). C3 was a fine watch too but went as I was consolidating the collection. Slight regret in selling them but can’t own everything! I’m left with the C9 AM GT.

Re: New ideas
There is clearly love for the motorsport watches amongst some here, but did they ever sell in large numbers? Not sure. Bringing one watch in this theme as a special edition might be a good way to see if the demand is really there. I'm not sure it is though.

Re: New ideas
I like this style of watch but my problem with them is the pushers.
IMO without any guards the pushers stick out too far from the case which leaves them open to damage or being pulled off more easily as happened with a TAG watch that I had years ago resulting in an expensive repair.
Design it with some sort of extension of the case to provide pusher guards and it'd be of interest.

Re: New ideas
Weren't the pushers deliberately designed as "pistons"? I quite like them. The only thing I find is that the pushers make it slightly awkward to manipulate the crown. It's hard to hand wind the Speedmaster, but it's awkward to hand wind any manual chronograph. It's part of the pleasure of owning themMikkei4 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 1:01 pm I like this style of watch but my problem with them is the pushers.

Re: New ideas
Looking at the suggested TAG offering I read;-
"Limited to just 100 pieces, the watch will first be offered to members of the Goodwood Road Racing Club, with any remaining units then appearing on general sale. Priced at £6,450 (approx. €7,650 / US$8,725 / AU$13,400) this represents a neat way to get a cool, limited edition watch without paying crazy money."
Since when was paying £6,450 not crazy money?
.
Moreover; "For motoring fans or just those who love TAG Heuer, this is a total no brainer. Should any units make it to public sale, I can see this one being a fast sell out."
What hyperbolic clap trap.

Guy. Nevertheless, the Tag is a very attractive design, even if the price isn't.Bahnstormer_vRS wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 3:04 pm Looking at the suggested TAG offering I read;-

I must say I prefer the placing of the subdials at 3,6,9 or even 6,9,12 for a mechanical chronograph compared with the 2,6,10 for most quartz movements.
I have quartz chronographs with the subdials at 2:30, 6 and 9:30 which I think looks better.
Re: New ideas
I love the Rapide models, I think they look great. An updated version would certainly get my vote.

Re: New ideas
I'd be interested in seeing new strap options as well. Love the look of the Bel Canto Leather Strap / Buckle and the fact that it's CW branded to match up to their watches, but would like to see them with a SS clasp option to go along with the Trident Series watches and other SS offerings.

Re: New ideas
It's not that I dislike pushers, they are 1 of the features that attract me to chronographs but some stick out so much or are so big that without some sort of guard I turn away from possibly buying the watch due to past experiences.JAFO wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 1:45 pmWeren't the pushers deliberately designed as "pistons"? To hand wind the Speedmaster turn it upside down - it's so much easier.

Re: New ideas
Exactly!

Another area that hasn’t seen a lot of development or limelight recently is the aviation watch or flieger. However, I do wonder whether a return to watches of this type, or the motorsport chronograph, would not seem so much an embracing of new ideas as a return to old ones? Not sure, worth pondering.

While still testing the waters of “moderately haute horlogerie”, I would love to see some thinner watches. The C5 Slimline wasn’t all that slim really, and the C5 Malvern 595 wasn’t really progressed very far; it had the necessary thin profile and a good hand wound movement, but I always felt it was a little too large in terms of diameter. I’m not suggesting that they make the same again but smaller, but maybe a thin hand-wound in-house movement to go with the ones they are currently developing might be an interesting departure? Not talking Altiplano or Bvlgari finissimo, but something that gets down to, say, Nomos Alpha levels. Probably some way ahead, if at all.

Re: New ideas
If we could get something in the vein of a Tag Carrera Glass box or a Zenith chronomaster with CWs design take I’d be in.
