I’m sure this was just a typo or maybe I’ve misread it, but for anyone reading who might misunderstand, this watch is not a Forum limited edition. It’s being organised by the Facebook Christopher Ward Aficionados group.

@timepieces_and_bags I see what you did there but I think the joke got lost in the space between. :D

You guys are being a bit too clever for me even if I was around to see Roxy Music live.

However the main thing is I hope the CW Adventure is specced sufficiently to turn you on.

I hope that's got everything Avalon associated out of the way and that his wonderful looking watch is released while my heart is still beating. :)

I apologise for starting this. but hopefully I've also ended the tangential line of posts.

...but was it though? It's usually a sapphire case back that reduces the WR of a watch. It could be that the crown is the limiting factor, but I'd imagine that this too, would be similar, if not the same as that of the C60 300.

More likely, is that it was cheaper and easier not to have to test to a higher level and the printing was already setup for 150m.

Actually it doesn't. When it comes to the caseback, the limiting factor is the thickness. When they fail, the caseback deforms and pushes the movement into the crystal stopping the watch. So whatever material you use it has to be thick enough that it won't warp under a given pressure. Note that Planet Oceans have sapphire casebacks and 600m WR. As an aside, the crystal has the same issue. If it warps then water can either ingress (if bad enough) or press down on the movement and stop it. So it also needs to be thick enough for a given pressure.
It could be that the crown is the limiting factor, but I'd imagine that this too, would be similar, if not the same as that of the C60 300.
Again, not necessarily. It depends on how the crown and crown tube are designed. The divers generally have more gaskets involved where other watches have a single gasket in the tube.

Again, it is really more about how they are built and not really anything to do with testing etc. We didn't even need to put 150m on the dial. Printing had no effect. Really it is all the parts working in concert. There is no one limiting factor.

I haven't stripped down any of the newer divers, but previous 300m versions, do not seem to have crown design and sealing, vastly different from a C63.
I'm not a betting man myself, but I would expect this model to test at over 200m without issue.

Usually, they are over designed by 25%. That is the ISO standard for divers but almost everyone does it as best practice ISO or not. Diver or not. So it wouldn't surprise me either. At least close to 200. The ISO guys will go 50% to be sure that they pass the 125% test without any issue.

Usually in a diver there is also a gasket in the crown itself as well as on the stem. Some designs have 3. I haven't taken apart any of my CWs to that extent so I can't comment.

Another aside, how the crystal assembly is designed and the gaskets used there play a big part too.

Ultimately, it would depend on the weakest link in the design, a single piece ,solid case back removes one extra complication in this chain.

I will, out of curiosity, have a closer look at one of my C63s.

What sort of time frame are you looking at? Do you have enough people yet?

Kind regards,

Sorry I missed your question, Ross. The C63 Adventure LE is still being finalized for design details. Once settled - we are awaiting CW’s Bespoke team’s response, the link will be posted to express your interest in ordering. The Atlantis fizzled at about 15 of the needed 25 minimum commitments. Aspects such as the seconds hand choices are still in discussion.

Latest dial revision. Case back design is still … being designed. Dial change now leaves off the partial index by the numerals.

This is the latest info received from CW Bespoke today:
The watch is currently with our team in Switzerland for the development work we require before being able to go live. Once we have this back, we will get the project launched.

Thank you for your patience 😊
