New Aquitaine Field Watch

Post by 5oclockhero »

WatchMeGo wrote: Tue Aug 30, 2022 4:59 pm Sounds like their field watch might take the path of the Tudor Black Bay 36 with raised indices like the Aquataine and no rotating bezel. Sign me up for a 37 or 38mm version in black or blue with light indices (no wild colors please!) Really interested in the 'musical' watch as well.
I thought this comment prompted by the teaser in Loupe was a great starter for a new post! Are we able to discuss anything regarding the forthcoming release?
I too would like to see something about 38mm and along the lines of the Seiko Alpinist or Black Bay .... slightly less militaristic than the previous CW C65 field offerings. Some colours could be interesting though!

Field watch? Colours?

Black, khaki, olive green, grey, brown 'tea stain'.

Yes this is my concern !! I think as soon as the term field watch is coined it narrows the 'field' of imagination. The particular C65 (i think!) you've pictured is lovely though I missed that one! Seiko have some interesting colours with their alpinist ranges, and serica have put a california dial in their superb offering. I'm hopeful CW might offer something a bit left 'field'. Fingers crossed. Apologies for the awful puns. I think I'm having a bit of a 'field' day....

 A “left” field watch! That’s hilarious.

On a serious note, I think there are avenues for color in a field watch inspired design, just not the bright ones of the C63 LE.

I don’t know what they could offer over and above the Sealanders to tempt my away but I’ll be interested for sure.

The teaser image in Loupe did nothing for me. Admittedly, it didn’t reveal a ton, but what was revealed didn’t stir anything.

Something very simple, nicely legible in a small-ish case (38mm sounds perfect!) and hand winding please and I'll be lining up to throw my hard earned pennies their way (again?)

I think so too. A field watch could (should?) be a chance to pare things down to a functional minimum. But use that opportunity to really focus in on those minimum features and details, and make them super

The purest expression of a tool watch, maybe?

(I’d say that a high complication dress watch might be the purest expression of horology???)

Still no idea of what makes something a field watch, as opposed to a simple fixed bezel, three hander, with sufficient WR for a swim (I.e. the oft named sports watch).

I often wear what to me is a simple sports watch, on paths, through fields on my way to a fell or mountain top. Does that make it a field watch? :)

Would it be more likely to become a field watch, if I removed the bracelet and put on a canvas or nato strap, whilst I stop for a brew with the Jetboil?

Given that a watch is fundamentally a tool for telling time, I think we’re saying the same thing!

Maybe a field watch simply has to be legible to a hunting kestrel sat on your wrist before taking off to hunt?? :D

Honestly, I thought your C65 Sandstone Blackout LE was such a beast. Or maybe it wasn't minimal enough?
