I was thinking exactly this as I wrote that reply. My sandstorm (non-blackout) is absolutely all the field watch I will ever require. Also all the daily wear watch I would ever require. Any other watch I own is purely because I also enjoy wearing it.

I’m not sure that we need distinct and separate watches for all these different activities, but I love the fact that CW do - they have always been a company keen to follow new and different inspirations. Always setting themselves challenges within the industry.The sandstorm was inspired by cross-desert rallying, and I love that, and I love how the final design represents that brief.

Anyway, I’m waffling now!!

When Mrs nbg was working, the caretaker at her school had a Harris hawk and we used to do game swaps. He would bring in rabbits that the bird had caught and I would give him trout.

He sometimes used to exercise the hawk in a local park, where it once showed a keen interest in a handbag dog, that the owner was walking.

I have no idea what watch he used to wear.

Thinking about all the puppies bought for comfort when we were in covid lockdown and wondering if anyone ever said "nuts to a puppy, I'm going to take up hawking!!" Probably not.

Now we read that we're heading to an economic crash and at least some of those now 3-year old covid puppies are likely to be abandoned by their doting parents we have to spare a thought for the buzzards and kites which have been blitzing the wildlife of the UK and the controversially released sea eagles: they're going to be feasting on expensive cross-bred lap dogs.

Now for a "kid-you-not moment": last weekend, a lady relative of mine looked me in the eye and told me that her 'ckle fluffy lap dog ,cross-bred between a Jack Russell and a Shi-tzu, is accurately described as a "Jack Sh1t"! Her mother-in-law couldn't believe what she was hearing.

Hey, I'm glad to see that my comment spurred some discussion! I'd love to see a simple watch without too much polish, with raised indices like a diver. Not looking for bright colors myself, maybe matte fishined gunmetal grey dial and without a rotating bezel. I really like that 37/38mm Serica with the california dial and large flat bezel with domed glass, and I also like the Black Bay 36 and it's simple dial with raised indices. I've been on the fence with both of them. I'm looking for an everyday, toned down watch but still with a bit of class. Maybe this watch only exists in my head...

Not really seeing a staggering difference between this would-be field drawing and the 36 Sealander on a strap or nato. Lets wait I guess.

I just hope it's not too much of BB36 clone, and it would also be nice if it had smth other than a SW200 with 38hrs of power reserve, which to me is starting to sound like NH35s on micro brands.

I’d like to see a 12, 3, 6, and 9 “Explorer” type dial layout. Possibly ditch the “12” for a triangle (as suggested by the Loupe teaser image).
I also hope their hint of an “automatic” movement will include a COSC version option?

Paired down does mean differently to different people, depends on occasion too.

A watch that has a anti scratch coating to the case, in dark gun metal with matching case back, with a rich dark green dial with sand markers with maybe the new logo at the 12 o’clock no numbering with the SH21 to give a 5 day power reserve and pop out crown.

That would be my type of paired down and not have to worry if I haven’t worn it for a day or two

Surely it won’t be a 38mm? The existing Aquitaine is what 41mm? Would require a whole new case design, would've thought they would keep it the same as the existing Aquitaine to keep costs down and then change the dial etc thereafter, I always find field watches a bit bland personally but look forward to seeing it!

One might argue coming out with a 38mm Aquitaine model is in keeping with the new push with smaller sizes. Maybe a 38mm field watch will be the vehicle through which they introduce a smaller case to the Aquitaine line? I think smaller size when I think field watch, so 38mm sounds good to me.

I'm pretty certain I'm going to wait on any purchases until this comes out. I love my Sandhurst. I just hope for a more modern field watch with NO AGED LUME, crisp, bright, modern, high contrast. Ideally I'd like COSC and chunky full lume numbers like the Vertex M100 series. But if numbers aren't the aesthetic, then chunky lume hash marks like the new Tudor Pelagos 39 or at least strong, modern, not aged lume. And no date please!

Wow some great input. Re sizes, over 40mm would wear pretty large without a dive bezel to break up the design and I can't imagine there being too many customers wanting a 3 hander in the larger sizes.
My 38mm alpinist, and 42mm C60 both share a 32mm sapphire dimension. So it is possible the aquitaine dial could drop straight into a much smaller watch easily, giving a neat tie-in across the dive and field range. But yes that would likely mean a new smaller case design.

I am loving the idea of a 40mm or smaller field watch. I won't be a customer, my bank account and wife will continue to love me, and the money can be spent on something much more worthy.
