My love affair with my C65 Trident Vintage

Post by jkbarnes »

At this point, I’ve probably thoroughly beaten into the ground the fact the my C65 Trident Vintage was a wedding gift from my wife. And I’ve also beaten into the ground the fact that because it was a wedding gift, she’s very sensitive about me acquiring new watches. Any new watch added to the collection diminishes that watch in her eyes.

But the fact is, nothing can diminish that watch, and in many ways how I feel about that watch mirrors how I feel about my wife. I’ve known my wife for a little more that six and a half years now, married for four. And every time I see her it’s still like I’m seeing her for the first time as she walked into that restaurant for our first date. The excitement and the giddiness when I see her have not diminished one bit!

And it’s no different with the C65 Trident Vintage. I find this watch as stunning to look at now as the day I got it. I stare at and admire its features now just as much as when I got it four years ago. The size is perfect on my wrist. The box crystal has a vintage vibe while the logo at 9 o’clock, with its crisp font is modern and elegant. The simple layout of the dial with its minimalist batons will always look fresh an relevant.

Every time I pick up this watch, wear this watch, admire this watch the emotional response is just as much about the woman who gave it to as it is about the watch itself. Nothing will ever diminish this watch.

Now maybe if I have my wife read this, she’ll ease up about me buying more watches!

Andrew, it's background stories such as yours that help make this the rewarding hobby that it is for me. And it is very well written. May I make a suggestion? How about providing your better half a hint of what you'd like next so that she has an ample amount of time to save up for either your next anniversary or Xmas(or both)? :)

She better start saving then, because it’s a JCL Reverso Duo that’s on my list! 😂

On a serious note, I agree that the back stories to the watches that are the best part of watch collecting. I love when someone has a back story to a favorite watch, and I love that those stories vary so much.

Wonderful attachment to your Vintage. (Doesn’t hurt that it is a great watch; I have one as well.)

I agree that the sentimental value will never diminish your C65 ( candidly a the arrival of the AM GT has demonstrated).

Curious is there another CW that captivates you Andrew?

Certainly there are other CWs I’m interested in. One merely needs to look at the wishlist in my signature!

But captivates? Hard to say, as that’s a strong verb! I certainly love my AM GT LE for what it represents, but wouldn’t say it captivates me.

This is pure speculation at this point, but I think I could find myself captivated by a JLC Reverso Duo! I could see myself being as thrilled with it a year down the road as with the first day of ownership, same as my C65 Trident Vintage. I’d like to find out!

Probably the most romantic post I’ve read on this forum, long may the excitement and giddiness continue.

As other's have said, it's the personal attachment through memories or special events with watches that make them very important to us.

To JK's missus :)

From here afar in the original Hampshire

A man sits and supports another "watcher"

Of a piece his wife can help save up for

to celebrate that meal he bought ya

and your wondering what he might like in return

For the years you've had and the memories passed

another CW is not a lot to ask, cause otherwise he'll be a pain in the arse

Great story, it's going to be a keeper along with the wife. :)
suggest you get some brownie points in the bag and you never know what the 10th, 20th and 30th anniversary's will bring

Great, romantic post Andrew but advocating your wife might read it; careful what you wish for..

Best to screenshot or print it; then show it to her.
