My first CW - a quick review

Btw for those complaining about QC... It happens to the "best" of them! I am having to send a Rolex back because the cyclops is on at an angle!

Blimey - soooo glad my Aviator has the ETA movement.
think the pic on the CWL website should show the selitta movement and not the ETA, because even though it says it could be either or without showing pictures of both it is misleading and results in disappointment.

Crikey, I would send that back and ask for a refund. It looks like a movement I would expect to see in a knock off Chinese fake and certainly doesn't deserve to be in an exhibition case !Matvei wrote:Do you have cote de geneve finish on the metal parts or is it bare metal?
Edit: This is mine:
I know that the technical specs state "Calibre: ETA 2824-2 / Sellita SW200".
I know CW has struggled in the past to obtain a good supply of ETA movements hence the need to move to a Sellita movement but there is obviously a world of difference between the quality and decoration of these two movements. So much so, that CW needs to have images of both movements on the website to avoid any breaking of the Trade Description laws.
I know I would be gutted to order a C5 and get a movement like that when I would be expecting the movement I saw on the website.
I get angry when CW does this as I really admire his business plan and efforts to bring affordable Swiss quality to the masses but it is issues like these that really hurt his reputation.
I feel his only option is to allow people to choose which movement they would prefer and to have a price difference between them.

I agree that there are always some issues that slip through production and as we hear of these problems and not the many happy customers it can sometimes seem like an avalanche of issues, movements aside of course.ctafield wrote:Blimey. However, once you contact CW they are always, in my experience, very helpful and resolve most matters very quickly. Something the big boys could do with remembering, in the past I have had to return a Bell & Ross due to misaligned hands and an Oris with a faulty date wheel. The customer service was shocking and not what you would expect considering these were watches that cost just shy of £2k a piece.

Matvei
Please don't feel afraid to send it back, the warranty is praised on here all the time. You NEED a replacement that movement is diabolical in appearance and obviously not what you bought into.

Re: My first CW - a quick review
This is a simple decision - send it back and ask for one with an Eta movement.
It should be an easy decision for CWL, too, in future - watches with the Eta movement can be specced with an exhibition back, those with the Sellita should have a steel back with a unique design on.
The Sellita is no oil painting. Unless it offers a decorated version it should be hidden from view.

Re: My first CW - a quick review
Oh dear and phew.
I had to double check the specs as I was briefly panicking that the C2 LE had a movement like this. Fortunately it does not. I can very much understand the disapointment though. I have no objections to an unfinished movement that I cannot see but a finish like the one in the image is in no way suited for a display back. It seriously cheapens the look of the watch and does look like a piece of chinese tat. Im note sure mentioning the fact it may contain a sellita movement but showing the pic of the better movement is a good thing either. I would say it probably is misrepresentation to a degree but of course with the 60 day return offer it could be sent back without issue. If I was Chris though I would consign that movement to watches without a display back because it cant be doing CWL any favours.
CWL does seem to be getting things wrong of late. I wasnt going to mention it but last week I recieved a watch winder that I had not ordered. Wera is as always very helpful and mistakes do happen but I was slightly irritated to find out today that I had also been charged for it. That should not have happened at all. I was told it was ordered by someone with a similar account number and to use the same card details CWL had on record but they mixed it up with my account number instead. I can only conclude it must have been ordered over the phone as the online system would always ask for the card details. Surely though each time there is a transaction made the card details should be asked for wether via the online ordering system or on the phone. Of course I will be refunded the postage but its still a pain in the butt to have to wrap this up again and waste my time in taking it back to a post office. I will no doubt have to send it back insured because Im not wanting any issues sending it especially with the looming mail strikes. It is the time wasting sending it back that annoys me the most if Im honest as I work long hours so my spare time is valuable to me.

Re: My first CW - a quick review
I'm pretty sure CW aren't getting any more ETA movements in are they? Due to the whole Swatch monopoly thing?
Re: My first CW - a quick review
well they must be... what do you think they will put inside C40's?

Re: My first CW - a quick review
That does not look the same to me at all shrink. The movement in the pic you have provided is a "finished" movement. The one in in the picture posted by Matvie is an unfinished movement. Something has gone wrong there because I would have thought the movement in Matvei's watch is for a steel caseback and not a display back. I dont think its less decoration, there is no decoration. If the watch had a Sellita movement with the finish in your image then I think we all would not be having this conversation.shrink wrote:
check this pic out:
thats a selitta SW200.. thats exactly what is in the picture displayed above (posted by matvei).. so seems that its just a different movement... which im afraid to say.. IS in the specs on the website.. so CW are well within their rights to send you one.
Re: My first CW - a quick review
Doh. Yeah, there is that, of course I forget where I read it now... It may have been in the Chat with Chris conversation, if anyone feels like checking the transcript.shrink wrote:well they must be... what do you think they will put inside C40's?

Re: My first CW - a quick review
My point was simply that they are the same movement... CW obviously dont get decorated Sellitas... but it remains a sellita nonethelessTerminator 2 wrote:

its definitely no ETA, as the ETA has the cutout rotor

They put more bloody effort into the movement inside the C6 LE and that is covered up
