UPDATE: My 10yo C8 has stopped working

Post by RichM »

I sent my C8 back in a pre-paid envelope on Wednesday, CW received it yesterday and I've just received an email quoting £165 for a repair.

I'm impressed with the quick turnaround so far. I've paid and now 8 to 10 weeks for the job to be done.

My C8 is back!! The invoice stated a repair to "reverse wheel". I've no idea what that means but it's ticking away happily. It was away about 5 weeks in total at a cost of £165. I'm looking forward to wearing it again but I'm no clearer on the service schedule debate!!

The reverse wheel is in the winding mechanism. It allows for winding in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions.

Ah, thanks for the insight.

So, here's a question..... does a repair include (or count as) a service??!!

Probably not. A full service would be pulling the whole movement apart and putting it through the ultrasonic cleaner. Then re-assembling, re-oiling and re-regulating the movement.

If I take my car in for a new exhaust I don't expect them to do an oil and filter change automatically as well!

Yes, the invoice didn't say service and repair but I suppose whilst it was with them a service would have been a good thing.

I'm not sure I should leave it another 12 years before getting it looked at again!
