It may not be the collab hinted in Loupe magazine but it gives a hint on what price point they might be at. As I mentioned in my previous post 3000 euro for a super corky and "fun" watch is a bit steep unless the new collab is much more subtle and can be used as a daily watch.
I agree. The Loupe article mentioned that the new collab would not only have a CW movement, but also be in a CW lightcatcher case. That case will no doubt be of better quality/finishing than the standard MJW cases (I say that having never seen one in the flesh) and might help justify a higher price point.

Big fan of MJW & would love to see them using CW case for sure. Should be a step up in terms of size and quality.

Just had a full browse through the catalogue and I'm confident my wallet is safe ahead of the next CW release.....

I like the "mispoes" cat and bird dial, I'd certainly want to slip one on wrist before committing.

Certainly, thank you for the heads up.

iain wrote: Fri Jan 24, 2025 5:46 am I always had a soft spot for Mr Jones watches. I liked many of their designs for the fun watches they are and their prices are very reasonable.

However they had a stand at the Manchester watch show in November where I was able to handle the watches and try them on. Sadly this has completely put me off them as I now see them as a cheap novelty and a brand I will only ever smile at from afar. I was very underwhelmed by them when I saw them.
I can see what you're saying mate, but I think you're missing the point. Check out the Open Dial interview with Crispin and see what goes into making them, might give you more of an appreciation 👍

I saw it on FB earlier. It’s quite funky and fun, but as a watch I could never wear it. I guessed that the two pink birds were for telling the time, but even then wasn’t that sure what the time was without applying some thought. Price TBC but presume must be in the c. £2k range?

Price is apparently £2,195 on grey or blue leather, and £2,330 on bracelet.

I really like MJW, and I do have a couple of them. I also strongly considered getting the (super expensive) Indefatigable Sphinx which also features a CW movement, but just when I wanted to order it I dropped them an e-mail to ask about lug to lug and AR coating, and the response I got made me not want to get it anymore.

They said that the lug to lug was 52.9mm, which is almost ridiculous for a 40mm watch and over my 50mm lug to lug limit. I have watches up to 44.25mm and none is over 50mm lug to lug.

The second disappointment was that they said the crystal has no AR whatsoever. Which is somewhat fine for their lower tier watches and doesn't bother me as much, but I find it quite unacceptable for a €2.5-3k watch.

So overall, while I'm a big fan of their designs, I feel the asking price for their high end models might be a bit disproportionate, even with the CW movements. But they're definitely improving and I'm sure they will get there eventually!

It’s quite fun, not really for me.

And simply put, I wouldn’t spend that much on a novelty watch. (Hurriedly goes to check his watch box to make sure he’s not being a hypocrite…)

I think it helps if you view them as art, instead of novelty watches. And to their defense, their dials are usually designed by actual artitsts.

Given their unique style and highly different looks, I think it's hard to appeal to everybody and it is ok not to want one. I also like some of their models, but I wouldn't wear others. I think that is perfectly fine!

About this new moon model in particular, I also find it quite fun, but it's a bit too cartoonish for my liking.

Way too expensive for such a niche, almost gimmicky product. You’re better off buying MrJ’s regular watches at the price they should be. And don’t start with the ‘but I don’t like their lugs’ complaints—you’ll be saving £1500-£1800, so just enjoy the fun piece for what it is and be happy.

I was very close to buying the "A Perfectly Useless Afternoon" watch last year. But I didn't like the lugs.

Sure, you have to like the dial art but the movement, build etc are all the same as what would come from CW. It isn't for me but I can see the appeal and definitely think the money is right for what you are getting. It doesn't get magically cheaper to do because the dial is different from the norm.

Not a fan of this animated watch.. the watch is the only piece of jewellery a guy normally wears.. this lacks class or style. Will be a hard miss for probably a lot of people. But only time will tell. It feels very Jacob and co level bizarre and that's not necessarily good.
I hope this won't be an ongoing venture for CW
