I’ve considered this, too… wondering if I might be an over-thanker having a thank to post ratio of over 8-1 (1000+ to 120ish). Being firmly in the newbie cohort, I’ve found the Thank Button to be nice way to ease into the vibe of the forum. I use it a lot in the OTD threads and the gratitude is real… I look forward to certain posters regular OTD contributions and have a lot of “dang that’s a beauty” type reactions. As @missF says, sometimes energy and time don’t allow full engagement, but the Thank Button fits the “I see you, it’s awesome, thanks for sharing” communication.

A million posts, what a milestone. I’m glad to have wandered into the pub. You folks and this little corner of the internet really are something special. I’ve laughed, cried, and been amazed. Not kidding.

Going to hit Thank on a bunch of AVO posts now! :D

And to think the Watchaholic's alternative dictionary thread currently only accounts for 794 of those posts. I think it possibly has the highest laugh to post ratio though. Who'd of thought a watch forum, of all things, had the power to make a person LOL.

Us regulars need to remember that and include others in the chat.
Joining the forum felt like being the new kid at school. You need to get out there and meet people and get involved but you don’t want to come on too strong or look like you’re trying to hard. It’s a delicate balance.

That’s a good observation about using the thank button. And the OTD threads are the perfect place to use it. I try to make sure I’m intentional with my use and not just being lazy. That typically means a few thanks followed up with a comment.

You are very kind, but I could suggest a better use of your time, especially since I disabled notifications for thanks as soon as the button appeared!

Here are some helpful introductory lines that will ease any newbie's arrival in the asylum:

My Rolex is bigger than your Rolex

Does anyone else think that CW need to change their logo?

My AD is bigger than your AD

I won't be buying one of these fancy new CW watches and I'm pretty sure that everyone else will be following me when I flounce out the door

Watchaholics Alternative Dictionary is awesome. I've been back and read the whole thing through a couple of times - it's fantastic. We reached the heights during covid - I remember just reaching a point where it was getting very tough and very stressful. WAD became a release valve. The outpouring of creativity was brilliant. At one point I think I had barely slept for 3 nights because i was so caught up with it. Just having (slightly hysterical) belly laughs with people from around the world all going through the same thing

Yes, casting my mind back in to the distant ether it did feel like that. When I joined it felt like there was a very established tribe and I wasn't sure my little meek voice would be heard or even welcome. I felt even more squeamish when two of MY favourite watches were quartz and none were CW's. I think I was determined to get my elbows out a little and politely nudge myself in to the conversation.

Yep, I like to go back from time to time and check a random page or two. The creativity at work was very good indeed. I also remember when the words and phrases started to dry up, which is where we are now. It seems a lot harder coming up with stuff that hasn't gone before, but when someone does they're usually gold.

timepieces_and_bags wrote: Sun Apr 13, 2025 6:00 pm I If I've done this maths correctly:

1. A million posts over 16,779 members means an average of just under 60 posts per member (I haven't excluded those who have never posted)
2. Members who have posted over 10,000 times number 14
3. Those 14 members have contributed over 296k of the forum posts, meaning around 30% of the forum posts have been submitted by the most dedicated 'regulars'
4. 163 members, or just around 1% of the total, have posted over 1,000 times each
5. The million posts have taken 7,063 days, at an average of around 142 posts a day on the forum
Some fascinating facts there. They augment and balance something I wrote just a few weeks ago (excuse the repetition):
Here on the forum we have over 16,700 members. The members list runs to 336 pages at 50 entries per page. Those who have actually posted begin on page 186. Over 9000 of our members have never posted on the forum.

Of the 7000+ who have posted, many have just made one post, sometimes many years ago. Many haven’t been active for years. There are surprisingly few current posters who contribute regularly.
I guess that in “local pub” terms the single posters are like the couple on holiday who called in for a pint in 2014, said the beer was nice or the crisps were stale, and went on their way.

Maybe the people who never posted looked at it, thought about it and went down the road to the Goat and Mangelwurzel instead.

A million is quite a thing for a little watch forum! Although Guy, Ferg, Steve and Kip are responsible for 150k on their own
I don’t post as much as I used to as I feel I am at least partially out the other side of the addictive rabbithole but still enjoy looking in quite often.

Long live the forum and all those who sail in her! Nice that our very popular Lindsey hit the mark.

Make a forum LE watch for this monumental occasion. MissFire (Maybe not that) MissFortune (actually not that either).
Maybe go with Lindsey Edition (LE)
