I can only echo the sentiments above that it was serendipitous for you to have been the poster of the millionth post on the forum
@missF, and your first post is as enjoyable and insightful as always.
With less than a year here and a paltry 849 posts (including this one), I still count myself as a 'newbie'. But I think I have certainly 'pulled up a chair' and have never felt anything other than welcomed on the forum, including the ability to ask dumb questions without judgement. As has been mentioned, it is rare on the internet these days that so much conversation can go by without (too much) argument or derogatory comment. For the forum being such a welcoming and tolerant place, credit must also go to the administration and admin team for maintaining this space for almost 20 years now.
I have read a but a fraction of the forum's history. But I have read some of the stories shared of joy and sadness, including some of those about forum members who sadly passed on. Maybe it's strange to feel emotion for internet forum members who I haven't (yet) met, or perhaps never will, but I did. And it's proof of the sense of community that this forum engenders that such tales can be discussed with such care and understanding. This isn't just a Christopher Ward watch forum, nor even a general watch discussion forum, but a community of simply nice people (with some of the worst puns known to mankind).
Anyway, with words I tend to ramble but with numbers I'm a bit better. If I've done this maths correctly:
1. A million posts over 16,779 members means an average of just under 60 posts per member (I haven't excluded those who have never posted)
2. Members who have posted over 10,000 times number 14
3. Those 14 members have contributed over 296k of the forum posts, meaning around 30% of the forum posts have been submitted by the most dedicated 'regulars'
4. 163 members, or just around 1% of the total, have posted over 1,000 times each
5. The million posts have taken 7,063 days, at an average of around 142 posts a day on the forum
As to my drink? Based on my most recent SOTC I reckon I'm taking one shot from every bottle behind the bar...
