Just added my vote for the C5. It isn't perfect as a dress watch(they are a bit chunky and I do prefer the design of the MK1), but they are still lovely watches and nicer IMO than the Tissot which to me looks a little common.
I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever you purchase. Oh and I agree with Amor Vincit Omnia, a gold watch is the best dress watch. You can get some amazing bargains on lovely conditioned S/H 9ct gold watches, I bought myself an Omega Geneve some time ago and never looked back when it comes to special occasions. Even on a budget of around £200 you can pick up a nice 9ct Tissot in superb condition.
Le Locle vs C5 Malvern?
Re: Le Locle vs C5 Malvern?
I think someone else also recommended it but it doesn't have a second hand so no go for me.pcal wrote:I'm going off the board and recommending the Hamilton intramatic

I really like both but currently have the Le Locle. But that is just today.
The last watch I bought will be the next to last watch I ever buy!

And you like gold watches.smegwina wrote:Only if you were born in the 30'sAmor Vincit Omnia wrote:I am sorry, but only a vintage gold watch is suitable as a dress watch.
Joking aside while I do like the C5 from what I recall its got a little bigger than it used to be I personally think a dress watch should be about 38mm or less. The Le Locle is a lovely watch but for me its more of a casual than dress watch as it wears pretty big in fact a lot bigger than the specs of the watch would suggest. What I do like about it is the attention to detail on the rear of the case.
I think for a dress watch I would probably not choose either, if the CW was a couple of mm smaller then I would go with that one. For a general casual watch however, I would get the Tissot.

Another vote for the C5, I think the bracelet on the Tissot is what is making me dislike it.

Re: Le Locle vs C5 Malvern?
I'm facing exactly the same dilemma My vote goes to C5 Malvern MKII, even if it's not perfect. It could be though: maybe just a little smaller (38mm) and slimmer, and with the caseback and movement more refined (as the one on C5 MKI).
If you aren't in a hurry, I would wait instead for the new CW hand wind C5-based (slim case, eta 2801, vintage style dial) that should hit the market in June.
That said, a good alternative (if you don't like roman numerals or decorated dials) would be Tissot Le Locle old reference (T41.1.423.71) that can be found used at half the price, and is really classy (feuille hands, argenté dial, baton indexes).
