Just got a Twelve Ti 40mm

Post by maclink »

The Twelve Ti 40mm - I just got mine today and thought I'd share my initial impressions since most of my impressions so far, will not likely change.

It took a full week after ordering from stock to be dispatched, but then it arrived the following day... a pleasant surprise. Well packaged as usual. I got it with the bracelet as well as a black rubber strap. Both were nicely packaged in a box. The coffin/case is the shorter format, COSC card included etc.

The dial (blue version) of the watch was, thankfully for me anyway, a bit tamer than in the closeup website images. My very long hesitation with getting this watch was down to the dial mainly, and the generally 'blingy'/showy appearance in the images. The Titanium nicely tones things down further, a notch.

The high gloss finishing to the bezel, case and links are all nicely done, adding some flare without being overdone.
The SW300-1 movement was, as usual, smooth to wind and set.
The bracelet was very easy to adjust and is comfortable, though not as comfortable as others I've worn. The inner edges of the links are a touch sharper compared to other bracelets I've worn. As a result, I'm more aware of the watches presence when compared to, for example, my Citizen AQ4091-56 (The Citizen). It's also fully Titanium with an overall weight within 5g of The Twelve. I was wearing The Citizen for the last week or so and I found myself, at times, checking my wrist since I think I had failed to put it back on (while at work, I frequently remove my watch for some tasks). OTOH, I realise that The Twelve will be feel just fine once my skin has been acclimatised to the subtle scratching of the sharper inner edges of the links.

With the bracelet adjusted to fit my 6.5" wrist, the combined weight (watch and bracelet) is 85g. Lug to lug ~43.5mm. The lugs are angled downwards with the flat portion of the watch having a 12 to 6pm diameter of just under 40mm. This watch therefore fits very nicely on my wrist. It's now my thinnest automatic watch!

Removing and replacing the bracelet was easy. I have to commend CW's efforts in this regard. Their watches beautifully cater to enthusiasts/owners who love to switch from bracelets to straps and back. Fitting the rubber bracelet was difficult on one side because of a small deviation in hole positioning one side of the strap. I will not be using this strap since it's too long resulting in too much free strap for my own aesthetic tolerances. I'd have done better with a standard or short strap option.

I took a risk buying this watch since I wasn't sure whether I would like it on unboxing and wearing. However, I've been pleasantly surprised and will not be returning it since it fits well, looks great and is light weight. Only time will tell my lasting impressions when compared to my other watches, in particular, to my favourites. My wife spotted it very quickly and thinks it 'a looker'. From her, that's a big compliment to CW's designer team.

Congratulations, it’s a beautiful watch and I love mine. I wrote quite a lot about it on a couple of threads:

”The Twelve” (Ti) - an early review

Twelve Ti on Malta - good holiday choice!

@maclink it looks fantastic, that is a great photo. It really captures the depth and detailing of the dial.
Thanks
Pat

I agree with @Redpat. Until now I’ve not really been a fan of the Twelve, but your version in your photo looks great, especially the feeling of depth.

Congrats @maclink and welcome to the 'recent Twelve Ti club' :)

Mine's a 36 in Cosmic Purple (16cm wrist) which sized for me is 70g!

Nice write-up of your impressions which are similar to mine, although any sharpness on the bracelet is not something that I've noticed.
I too was a bit hesitant about how the dial would look 'in the metal' but in fact CW have found the right balance: interesting to look at but not 'spectacular' which is a good thing (especially in purple)!

So this for me is a watch is even better on-wrist than the watch I already wanted to buy :) Super nice.

Thanks. I agree with you about the date window and the lack of contrast between the number and blue background. I can well imagine how well it will do in the bright sunlight with the polished accents. I agree with it being a great holiday choice. :)

The lume is decent and I have little trouble reading the time in low light, which is a problem I have with the C63 Valour.

On staring at the watch some more, I think the crown guards add to the appearance... a wise design choice.

I should have added that the bracelet's butterfly clasp, when open, gives a lot of room for getting the watch on and off.

I don’t really think of it as a watch for a beach holiday – that is more the role of the Sealander GMT. Though it has certainly made the acquaintance of swimming pool water. Malta was more in the way of a sightseeing holiday, and I have a tour of Morocco coming up next month. I think this one will be on the shortlist, as it’s so light and wearable.

That’s an interesting point about the clasp. I hadn’t thought about it, but of course you are right.
