Re: July Sale 2024 Thread
I see a couple more new watches in the sale area. 36mm Sealander GMT among them.

Re: July Sale 2024 Thread
I know it get's tired making an issue of this, but that particular seller has fifteen straps and six watches from the sale. So any limit set for purchases, must only be for each transaction.nycWATCHnerd wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 3:49 pmI (and I think you too) were referencing this one which was discounted 45% for a NOS (not NN). I wanted it but it was gone before I could even get all my info into the online purchase form/cart. And now some jerk is trying to flip it for more money on eBay...not cool.

Re: July Sale 2024 Thread
If CW want to prevent this flipping there's a couple of things they could do, I think.
They could enforce the limit of 5 orders per account. Maybe they do. Maybe this buyer uses family members to buy some watches. Maybe they could make 5 per postcode. They could also prevent any account that has flipped a watch in this way in the past from buying in future sales. Also, perhaps they could limit access to the preview more rigidly, and only allow purchases to forum members with pre-existing sales accounts. I'm just trying to think of things that ought to be easy to implement.
It's certainly irritating for CW enthusiasts to miss out on so many opportunities.

I would have really like to purchase that Green Aquitaine at 45% discount because I would have actually worn it but I am not paying the "flippers fee" on eBay. Unfortunately, I think this is the way of the (watch) world.
In NYC/Manhattan, not only can you pay to have almost anything delivered to your home, there are also people you can pay to wait on line for you at a restaurant, a take-out lunch place, or whatever you want.

Re: July Sale 2024 Thread
I think we've had discussions about this before. I suppose my pragmatic self would say that CW are in the watch selling business. So, like it or not (and I understand why some people don't like it) they will be happy to sell stuff to people who want to buy it. If anyone want's to comment on flippers, then again there are many members of the forum who have bought and sold watches. Maybe not immediately, and often after a year or two but where do you draw the line?
That's not to say I'm not annoyed (to use a forum family friendly term) about all those watches on ebay from people who have hoovered them up and then sell them at a considerable premium. And worse still, the "private sellers" with dozens of new items for sale.
Still, "first world problems" eh?

@nycWATCHnerd
I think I’d just book a table or find a place that was less busy. There are few things I really want badly enough to bother queuing for them.

I agree. I will not pay the flipper fee for any watch and why I will not use one of those services.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 5:30 pm @nycWATCHnerd

I am amazed what people will do for an IG pic of an "experience" (because rarely are they doing it for their own enjoyment). They often spend so much time trying to get the pic that they miss out an the actual experience.

Re: July Sale 2024 Thread
Intent.
Someone who buys a watch to only sell it for a profit thus reducing the chance of others to purchase it at a discount (or actually get the watch if limited and/or not on discount) who actually want to wear the watch.
As an example, I am old enough to remember that most Rolex watches could be purchased at a discount, up to about 10%, except the Daytona which has been difficult to get since the early 1980s. Those days are long gone.
Someone who buys a watch to wear and then sells it a week, a month, a year later is not the issue (IMHO).
As you suggested, this topic has been discussed ad-nauseum both here and on other watch related forums so nothing really new to say on the topic.

Re: July Sale 2024 Thread
I will only add that the CW 60:60 does rather lend itself to flipping for profit: If I've got this right, I can buy a watch in the sale, post it on ebay and if it doesn't sell in (just under) a couple months return it for a full refund. Just to say though - I've never sold a watch.

Looks like the sale link is finally closed! Only a few months till we do it all again in January
Re: July Sale 2024 Thread
I bought a watch near the end of the sale, a C60 GMT. I returned it though. I just felt the numbers on the bezel were too bright, being fully lumed, and especially as there was a full run from 2 to 22 rather than 1 to 11 on a non GMT watch, (sometimes fewer than 1 to 11).

They must have removed the sale page at 5pm BST because...it is now gone and...Gawith4life wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 5:12 pm Looks like the sale link is finally closed! Only a few months till we do it all again in January
I ordered (for my brother) a new C60 Trident Pro 600 White Dial 40mm at 9:11am EDT(2:11pm BST). I paid in GBP to get under the $800US limit so that I could avoid import duty but unfortunately had to pay NYS/NYC sales tax.

The NYS county level taxes are so fun to navigate. I’m in Tompkins though my mailing address is in Tioga. If I physically resided in Tioga - the county line is only 5 miles away, I’d pay 1.5% less sales tax.nycWATCHnerd wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 6:11 pm I ordered (for my brother) a new C60 Trident Pro 600 White Dial 40mm at 9:11am EDT(2:11pm BST). At least you live in a nicer area of NYS without... canine and human waste, vomit, and garbage on the streets.thomcat00 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:31 pmThe NYS county level taxes are so fun to navigate. For better or worse, I have been getting screwed with high sales/income taxes by NYC and NYS most of my life.
