Incoming(s)...

Post by PGR101 »

Having mostly been doing some hard headed clearing out in the past few months and, aside from a strap, avoided the CW Sale last month, I have found myself with three watches incoming this week (at some point I'll do a SOTC...). One watch was an impulse buy back in mid-Dec on pre-order and two were watches that were on my wish list and I was periodically checking the second hand market for. While I wanted the watches I wasn't willing to pay massively over the odds - so much is over-priced, people looking to make a big profit, or just assuming Limited Edition or ‘rare’ means it should be expensive! By the weekend I should have all three (and due to some poorly timed travel there is no way of avoiding my better half realising what I've done but hoping she'll take all the deliveries  ).

First up is the Marloe Coniston Trackday. I generally like the look of Marloe's but my first purchase was a rather conservative black dial GMT. Nice watch but didn't really add anything to the collection so it will be on the way out. Saw the Trackday back in December on pre-order, loved the nod to Gulf colours and the nylon strap, and bought on a bit of a whim (at a sub-£500 price point it seemed silly not too!).

Next up is the Kurono Reiwa 5th Anniversary. I've been looking at Kurono for a while and this and one of their chronographs have been on my wish list. Not that many out there and many in my view were mostly over priced. But found one with a private seller who had bought but hadn't gelled with it so was selling to break even. The simplicity of it and the colours (and yes, I'm often drawn to smaller brands) just really work for me so hoping it'll be as good in the metal.

Final purchase was a C63 GMT COSC LE. Dithered in the July '24 sale, missed it and been ruing the day. Seen a few with unrealistic mark-ups that I've resisted but found one at a reasonable price. I've been trying to reduce my CW collection (peaked at 11, down to 8) but think this is worth it. I had a Hunter Green GMT that I liked but found the green a bit limiting in terms of how often I was wearing it. So it went and I'd toyed with the blue GMT and the dagger silver standard Sealander but on the latter I always came back to that splash of blue on the GMT. This one is on the consort although I'd bought a blue canvas strap in the sale but realised the watch I had in mind for it was the COSC GMT that at that point I didn't own. Rather smug with myself that I didn't send the canvas back!

Three nice watches there, with the first two being a little leftfield. Really like the look of the Kurono, it's an elegant looking piece. Hope they live up to expectations for you.
