Incoming - Atoll Reef Blue

Post by JAFO »

I just bought this in the samples sale, received today.

To me the dial looks rather greener than the blue I can see in reviews generally. I have seen the central portion of the dial described as tiffany blue, but this looks different. It has a normal serial number, so I don't think it's a test sample, if that makes sense. Can anyone comment?

I have a few days to decide anyway.

Photos with the description and product code from my invoice.

I usually made a habit to check a product on multiple monitors (phone, TV, PC, laptop) and from multiple sources (marketing pictures, independent reviews) to try and make a better opinion on the color, since colors usually don't look the same in real life. Doing this over the years, I got to the point where I kind of know if the color looks off due to being oversaturated, or not having enough contrast.

Back on topic, I'm also waiting for mine which I also got during the sale, should be here next week but customs clearance takes a couple of days. I think all items are just display items (thus the 'sample'), I don't believe they are prototypes or something like that (they usually make it clear if that is the case).

Looking at the pictures, I think it looks beautiful (duh, that's why I got one), and it doesn't look greener than what I was expecting. For this price, I really think it's a steal, unless you absolutely hate it.

How is the wear on yours? Any visible marks or issues?

@JAFO I’ll check mine when I get home. Your top photo certainly looks greener than I would have thought plus any photos I have taken, while your second is a bit more consistent. It might be that this dial is really affected under different light. Below photos are not filtered.

The centre of this Atoll dial has always looked green to me.

This is possibly the ‘truest’ photo I can get of the dial, though I would say it’s a little greener in real life than the photo would suggest.

@alexqaws - thanks for the tip on colour rendition; it made me think to take my Laptop's screen off 'night setting (reduced brightness)' before looking at and commenting on Dave's photos.

@JAFO - succinctly, Dave, your Reef Blue Atoll looks fine to me. Your photos look a bit dark overall, making not only the dial darker and thus having a bit of a greenish hue, but the strap is darker and the paper of the Invoice is darker too. :-k :-k

Normal serial number as in ABC-123, I take it? A prototype will be S22-018 or similar.

Bottom line, you've got a good 'un. :D :D

It’s a nice watch and dial in any light, but it seems to come alive in sunlight!

Thanks for you observations.

That's the word I had in mind, but couldn't come up with it. Prototype. The number starts with AEF.

The picture of the invoice was taken outside, the other one inside. It really doesn't look like Tiffany blue in the centre of the dial it's also rather different to the Pool Blue I bought - darker tones, and a darker strap. It's very attractive, but not exactly what I have seen in on line images. I had wondered if there had been a different colour blue - an atoll blue and alse a different reef blue, but there seems to be just the one.

This is the pool blue alongside the reef blue. The image colours aren't perfect but illustrate the difference.

Well, clearly the lighting makes a real difference. I just took these two, one indoors and one in the sunshine, and you wouldn't think it was the same watch.

These are similar to the pictures that@timepieces_and_bags showed earlier. The second one in particular.

I’ve experienced this with the Twelve Ti blue. Take it into the sunshine and it’s almost like a different watch; it’s a complete chameleon.

I won't change straps, or even close the buckle on this watch until I'm sure I'm keeping it, so no pictures on alternative straps.

I have a 40mm bracelet, and I have a white strap incoming. I don't really have any straps that seem to go with either the reef blue or the pool blue. Maybe my blue velcro strap would work. I'll try that on my pool blue

Edit. It suits the pool blue, and I'm sure it will suit the reef blue. .

@JAFO To be perfectly honest, I really like the greenish / turquoise tint in the middle and the gradient to blue. And to me, your photos look very consistent with those on CW's website (and a few other reviews that I've seen). I really hope mine looks like yours in real life. It's still with customs but I hope to have it in hands on Tuesday.

Congrats! I like it a lot and had I seen one I would have picked one up myself! By the time I saw it there was no Atoll left, there was a Bel Canto that I briefly considered for the price but decided not to.
