Re: I think I'm DONE with Sellita movements
i remember seeing a video interview with I think the head of Sellita's product development talking about where they were going with SW-200. Perhaps Monochrome but I'm not certain. One of the areas discussed was PR 'more than 60 hours' to my recollection. And apparently definitely not silicon, they considered there were negatives going down that path.
This is especially interesting considering where they are currently at with the 300 series. My Sealander GMT is good for 54 hours by my reckoning.

Don't know, but it didn't start that way. Just one day became like that.

In contrast my C5A Mk2 with Sellita has kept on running smoothly with no issues the past 13 years. I only decided to get it serviced 2 months ago just because I thought it was time, didn't want to push my luck and have wear and tear damage something.

Was it this one with Chrono24? I found this one very informative.Noush wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 10:59 am i remember seeing a video interview with I think the head of Sellita's product development talking about where they were going with SW-200. Re: I think I'm DONE with Sellita movements
Well I've just got my first, the 510M. No complaints as of yet. Seems to keep pretty good time, and last time I checked was returning 61.5hrs of PR against the manufacturers suggested 58. Seems that most people's beef is with the SW200.

Re: I think I'm DONE with Sellita movements
Just re-watching this, and thanks @rkovars for finding this....and yes I too found it very interesting.
I note he says the 200-1 is already slightly increased in PR from 38 to 42 hours and I'm wondering why CW is still quoting 38?

Re: I think I'm DONE with Sellita movements
@Noush I suppose it could depend on when the upgrade was made and how much stock of the movement they carry in Switzerland at the atelier. Or maybe the info hasn’t filtered down to the people who put the tech specs in the manuals and on the website?

He needs to have a word with his own company, it says 41 hours on the Sellita website.

Why wouldn’t they just underpromise by a few hours and then over deliver?

Re: I think I'm DONE with Sellita movements
Thought about that but this was 10 months ago and I doubt that happened immediately prior. By my understanding, CW will have sold maybe 50,000 watches in that time, predominantly SW200s....so I'm thinking they will have had new stock.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 12:37 pm I suppose it could depend on when the upgrade was made and how much stock of the movement they carry in Switzerland at the atelier.
The good news either way is he's talking about the replacement movement going 65 hours or better, and for watches in rotation especially that's a handy/competitive number.
For actual owner benefits, that's good.
For their competitive position, especially with the growing prominence of LJP's G100 for example, that's needed.

Re: I think I'm DONE with Sellita movements
Veering slightly off topic, it is interesting that people think the higher price point is going to get a higher quality item. There comes a point at which no extra cost materially affects the level of finish, there is only so much polishing that can be done, for example. If you factor in price positioning, AD overheads and marketing campaigns, an awful lot of the extra cost from large and established brands is added to no other benefit than managing expectation. Expectation bias, is one of the main reasons that people pay what they do for products, particularly in the luxury market.OllyW wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 9:04 pm The crown on my Atoll also feels slightly rough when trying to screw the crown back in, it sometimes takes a few goes to get the thread started but tightens up ok once it has properly engaged. On my two Sealander GMTs the crowns feel really smooth and screw back in without any hesitation. The Atoll also feels more agricultural when winding the watch and adjusting the hands compared to the Sealanders.
The action of the crown on my Tudor Ranger feels even better but I would expect that given the higher price point.

Re: I think I'm DONE with Sellita movements
Given the extended PR of the newer ETA movements, I would imagine that Sellita are looking at a similar upgrade as a matter of priority. Citizen already have their Swiss LJP G100 with a PR of 68 hours.Noush wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 10:59 am i remember seeing a video interview with I think the head of Sellita's product development talking about where they were going with SW-200. Re: I think I'm DONE with Sellita movements
That's interesting. I just timed the power reserve on my Trident Pro 300 Bronze. It has the SW200-1 COSC movement quoted at 38 hours by CW. Sure enough I managed 42:30 in PR. Maybe CW should change their quoted power reserve as you point out.

I'm also averaging +2.4 sec/day on this watch.
So far so good. Winding is smoother as well. Much better than the standard SW200 movements I've had before.
