I just got a C60 Trident and it stopped working after 20 min

Post by expo »

Wow, I don't know what to do.

I just got my Trident Pro in the mail yesterday. I looked at it but needed to get it sized.

I took it to my jeweler and realized it stopped moving. I thought it was weird since it just crossed the atlantic and had to experience plenty of movement but thought, whatever. Got it from the jeweler, put it on and set the time. 20 minutes later the watched stopped working.

Nothing, nada.

What the?

I sent an email to Christopher Ward but seeing how it is the beginning of the weekend I doubt I will hear anything till Monday. A bunch of people went in to get this as a gift and I already posted a pic and they are expecting to see me wear it later this weekend. This is not cool.

Are you used to automatics?

In general a Swiss movement needs about 8 to 10 turns of the crown to get started and then wearing it will spin the rotor to wind the movement up. Once fully wound it will keep going for 39 to 42 hours after you take it off. So if you wear it each day (and are active - I have found sitting at a desk job does not do it) then it will keep going.

To fully wind it unscrew the crown and then turn the crown away from you for about 40 turns to fully wind it.

Agreed, make sure that the watch is properly wound. However, if you have tried that and it still is not working then CW customer service should be able to sort you out rather quickly monday

Not so, it's probably sat quite still "in transit" and not had anything like enough movement believe it or not.

I read a little and wound it a bunch. Still nothing.

Sent an email to customer service.

In all honesty this is my first automatic.

Just hold in your palm and do 20 360 degree rotations of your shoulder. Or unscrew the crown, and wind the watch, giving it about 10 turns - see if it works.

It may well be that it is a problem with the watch but as it is your first automatic I would suggest seeing a friend who has automatics to help and if not go to a friendly watch shop and explain that this is your first automatic. A good shop will help you out.

I will try these things but the confusing thing is that it was working. It stopped while 8th was on my wrist.

It sounds like the watch is faulty but as this is your first auto I would do as Ian suggests in his last post and be 100% sure.

could very well be faulty then. The watches can get banged up in transit, when I got my Makaira pro in the US a couple of years ago right out of the box I couldnt adjust the date wheel, the gears just wouldn't engage, a couple of hours later I tried again and magically it was working again hahaha

I have done all kinds of ridiculous arm twirling and no change.

Anyone know what normally happens in these cases?

Like I said, I sent the email but it is now Saturday.

You would go to the site and request a repair.
http://www.christopherward.co.uk/cw360care/repairs.html

This is free of charge. If you are in the UK they send you a prepaid bag to return the watch. If outside I think you have to send it yourself and they will reimburse you but someone in the US will know the process. Or just wait until Monday when CWL can get back to you and sort it out.

How long was it working? If it was wound during transit just enough to run briefly, then unscrewing the crown, then giving it 30-40 clockwise turns ought to charge it up for you. I think that's your best bet--wind it fully and see if it runs. If not, send it in for repair/replacement/refund.
